The next morning, I got a call from Tay saying that they had to do a small promotional in-store appearance at a mall in Kansas City and asked me if I wanted to go along.
'Sure! I'd love to. You know, I have never been to a promo appearance. All the ones you did near me were on the wrong days or too full or something.'
'Ok, well, we'll pick you up in about an hour. Is that ok?'
'Fine Tay! Oh, just remember, you promised to teach me to roller-blade today!'
'Oh yeah! Um, well, we should be back in time to go out for awhile. We'll just have to see.
The Hanson van pulled up outside my house an hour later.
I jumped in.
Mackie, Avie and Jess were not with the family today, so there was plenty of room for all Hanson's equipment.
'You'd think they'd at least supply drums, instead of making us cart ours across the country!' Zac complained.
'Zac, it's hardly across the country! It's only two hundred miles!' Diana told her son.
'It's still far!' he whined.
We had a fairly good trip, talking and laughing, but by the time we hit the Kansas border, (which was less than fifty miles) Zac came out with,
'Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?' and continued, despite attempts by everyone else in the car to shut him up, for the remainder of the trip.
We even had to stop on the side of the expressway (which I thought was illegal) because he was feeling carsick.
By the time we reached Kansas City, we had had quite enough of Zac Hanson.
The concert was really good, a little out of hand and big, but good. I sat backstage with Walker and Diana.
The guys sang 'MMMBop', 'Weird' and 'River.'
At the end of the show, some fans were allowed backstage to get autographs.
Some girls noticed Diana and I sitting near by and walked over.
'Hi Mrs Hanson! Welcome to Kansas City!' one of them said.
'Thank you girls, but I think the people you are after are over there!' she pointed smiling to Hanson.
The girls explained that they had already been and seen them and were giving everyone else a chance.
One of the girls shyly said,
'Um, I know this is kinda rude, but I have a friend in Tulsa and she said that Tay has been seen with a girl and everyone has been saying he is going with her.'
Diana, used to things like this said,
'Well, the guys do have a lot of friends, some girls.'
'We know, but someone saw them holding hands and we didn't think they had time to date.'
Diana didn't have time to answer, Walker asked the girls to leave.
As they were, Tay came over to me and started talking.
The girls spotted us and must have worked it out.
They were not impressed.
