‘Ring Ring! Ring Ring!’
‘Ok, ok! Coming!’
I raced to the phone.
‘Hello?’
‘Hi! Peta?’
‘Yeah, who’s this?’
‘It’s Tay! Hi! How are you?’
It took me awhile to remember how to talk, I was on the phone to Taylor Hanson!
‘Taylor! Hi! I’m great! How come you’re ringing me?’ I was speechless.
‘Mom wanted me to call you and ask you over tomorrow night for your first lesson. Oh, and if you’d like to see if we can work on our “Surely as the sun” duet. And of course to meet everyone!’
‘Oh, uh, sure! I mean, great! That would be great! It should be alright with mom. Oh, I’m sorry if I hyperventilate a little, but I can’t believe I am going to go to Hanson’s house!’ I gushed.
He just laughed.
‘I know you must be a little freaked, but it’s not a very special house! Oh, look, Ike said he will come and pick you up about five on his way home from a friends. Is it ok if you stay for tea?’
‘Sure! I mean, I haven’t checked with mom, but I know she’ll let me!’
‘Cool! Look, I have to go, Ike knows where to come. See you tomorrow then! Oh, if you have any music you want to bring, bring it.’
‘Ok! Cool! Wow! Thanks Taylor. And thank your mom again!’
‘Sure! Look forward to seeing you! Bye Peta!’
‘Bye!’
When I got off the phone, I nearly fell over.
I was going to Hanson’s house and sing with Taylor!
Wow!
Oh my gosh! What was I going to wear?
I flew to my room.
The next day, after nearly dying waiting, an unknown car pulled up into the driveway.
No one else was home so luckily no one saw me trying to calm myself down.
By the time Ike rang the doorbell, I was ready to faint.
I opened the door.
‘Peta?’
‘Yep! Hi!’ I tried to appear casual.
‘I have certainly heard a lot about you! Are you ready to go? I’m kinda in a hurry, sorry.’
‘No problem! Just let me lock up.’
I locked the house and followed Ike to his car.
‘I’d better warn you though. I am a huge fan and could freak out at anytime, though I will try profusely not too ok?’
He laughed and I realized he was pretty damn fine!
‘No worries! Just try to warn me if I’m driving ok?’
On the way to Hanson’s house, Ike and I talked like old friends and I completely forgot about freaking out.
Hanson were just normal people and when I met Zac it would be no different from meeting anyone else.
Upon arriving to the Hanson pad, I was greeted with Tay and what I assumed to be Avery sitting on the front step waiting for us.
As soon as we pulled on the drive, Tay jumped up to greet us.
‘Hey Peta! How are you?’
‘Great thanks!’ I said climbing out of the car.
‘Oh, this is Avery. Avery, this is my friend Peta.’
Avery waved.
‘Is she your girlfriend Taybear?’ she asked.
Tay looked at me and grinned.
‘No, Ave, she’s just a friend.’
Ike accompanied us into the house. (which was very nice)
I met Diana again and Jessica and Mac.
I was told Zoe was asleep and Zac was out at a friend’s.
Then it was down to business.
Diana got me to warm up and then to show her some of the pieces I had already learnt.
Tay and Ike stayed out of curiosity and also to give me pointers here and there, when they weren’t making me laugh.
‘Vat do you zink of zees?’ Tay asked, playing a chord on the keyboard.
‘Lovely darlink!’ Ike replied, clapping his hands, making me laugh.
‘Seems these two are showing off.’ Diana whispered to me.
‘And you know what that means!’
I blushed.
Tay and I sung ‘Surely as the sun’ for Ike and he was very impressed.
‘Well! Looks like I’m out of a job!’ he retorted, standing up in a pretend huff.
‘I’ll be leaving then!’ and he stormed out of the room.
Tay grinned,
‘Now I have you all to myself!’ he said slyly, pushing me off the sofa and onto the floor.
We started to wrestle before Diana cleared her throat and ordered us back to work.
She was a little strict, but I could never ask for a better teacher or a better time than right here in the Hanson basement with Taylor.
Before we knew it, it was time for dinner and then time for me to go.
Ike offered to take my home.
‘Thank you so much Diana! I had a great time and lovely dinner.’
‘Not a problem dear. And you really hit it off with Ike and Ave. Jess is feeling a little under the weather, so don’t worry if she was a little antisocial tonight, and Mac is a little shy sometimes. Look, I’ll call you sometime to make another lesson ok?’
‘Sure! Bye! Bye Ave!’
The little girl gave a big toothless grin and wave from the sofa.
‘Bye Tay!’ I called to him.
‘Oh, I’m coming!’ he called from the kitchen and came scooting out.
‘Hurry up then!’ Ike grumbled.
‘You are always late!’
‘What’s the rush? Where are you off too?’ Tay grinned at his brother.
Ike just ignored him and Tay knew he was up to something.
We left.
