Speaking in Tongues.......
Ike smiled. ‘Apology accepted. Now, do you want to tell me what’s going on?’
Tay had nowhere to go so he felt a little foolish storming out of the room like he did.
‘Destiny!’ Ike stood and grinned widely as Sarah brought Destiny into the room.
Tay walked around dazed.
Zac was sick to death of Tay moping around sighing and looking like he’d just seen his best friend die.
‘You know, Tay’s gonna hate me, but he had like the biggest crush on you for ever!’ Ike laughed as he and Destiny shared a large order of fries between them.
Tay slumped down on the bed.
‘You’re gonna think I’ve totally lost it.’ He groaned.
‘No I’m not, I promise, now just tell me.’
Tay searched for the right way to put it.
‘Well, ah, see…there was this girl, from the first concert. And she was like this, well, I can’t stop thinking about her. I sound insane I know……’ he trailed off.
Ike looked sympathetically at his brother.
‘I thought it might have been something like that. And don’t worry, I don’t think you’re insane. I was just a little scared about what you said to Zac. About some angel! Anyway, now that everything is sorted out….’
Tay’s eyes flared and he flew up off the bed.
‘I knew you wouldn’t understand! I don’t even think you tried to! She was an angel and I saw her again! I know it’s like a sign or something, but none of you even care! You just think I’m being stupid or going insane or something! I don’t know why I even bother!’ Tay spun and stormed out of the room.
Ike stared after his brother with a look of bewilderment and helplessness.
But he couldn’t go back in now.
He had too much pride.
Instead he wandered down the hall towards the room they kept the backstage pass winners until they were allowed to come and meet them.
It was a small dark room with two sofas and a table.
Perfect, Tay thought.
He could lock himself in there and be alone for awhile.
And try and work out why he was still so hooked up on this damn girl.
As he got closer to the room, he noticed the light on and voices coming from within.
‘Damn! More screaming fans to meet!’ he spat.
Just as he was about to turn and walk away, the door opened and Sarah, one of their crew stepped out.
Following her was a girl about Tay’s age, with long dark hair, intense blue eyes and a magical aura.
Tay’s jaw hit the ground.
Twice in the one day.
It was her.
His angel. Again.
As quickly as she had left his life the first two times, she had past Tay and was following Sarah down the hall.
But this time, as if in slow motion, she turned for one last look at him before disappearing through a door.
Tay wanted to hurry and follow her but he was glued to the spot.
He could only watch.
‘Wait…..’ he whispered to the empty corridor.
The next thing Tay knew, his mother had led him into his room and there was no chance to follow his angel.
‘Ike! How are you?’ Destiny rushed forward and enveloped Ike in a hug.
‘Great, since yesterday!’ Ike laughed. ‘You ready to go? I thought we’d better leave as soon as possible to get as much time in before I have to be back.’
‘Sure! Oh, where are we going? I hope I’m not underdressed.’
Ike looked at Destiny and mentally sighed.
The short blue gauzy dress she had on made her look even more of an angel.
For a fleeting instant, Ike could relate with Tay and his ‘angel’. Some girls just took your breath away.
‘No……you’re fine. You’re more then fine. Now come on, let’s go!’ Ike causally took Destiny’s hand and led her out on their date.
He tried to find Ike to apologize to him but his father told him he gone out somewhere with Destiny.
You remember Destiny Harringbush don’t you Tay? His father had asked.
Yeah dad, she used to live down the street right? he'd replied.
There was no way Tay was going to tell his father that not a day had gone by since Destiny had left that Tay had not remembered her.
So Tay wandered around, with nothing to do but ponder the smile the angel had left him with.
He decided to find out what the matter was.
‘Tay? What is your problem?’
Tay turned. ‘Huh?’
‘I said, what is your problem?’ Zac asked irritably.
‘Don’t worry Zac, you wouldn’t understand.’ Tay brushed him off with a wave of his hand.
‘Oh for goodness sakes Tay! That’s all you and Ike ever say to me! You wouldn’t understand. No, little Zac never understands anything! Well I understand this! I understand that you are hooked up on some stupid girl you have seen twice in your whole life and I think that’s pretty pathetic! Would you get over her already and get with the land of the living? You’re really starting to annoy everyone!’ and with that, Zac stormed out of the room.
‘Three Zac. I’ve seen her three times.’ Tay whispered after him.
‘Yeah, I kinda thought so. But you know……’ Destiny broke off, embarrassed.
‘What?’
‘Oh, nothing. You wanna go put some music on the jukebox?’
‘Sure!’
Ike stood and guided Destiny over to the jukebox with a carefully placed hand on the small of her back.
‘What song do you want?’ she asked.
‘Anything at all. You pick.’ Ike watched with clear adoration as she deliberated over the selection of songs.
You’ll never know how much I’ve missed you Destiny. He thought.
