Twisted Roads of the heart.......
‘We’re going to see Destiny?’ Tay asked quietly.
The next day, Tay excused himself from the hotel around noon to go for a walk by himself.
Tay was in such a daze when he arrived back at the hotel that Zac had no idea how he had even found his way.
Tay had never been more confused in his life.
Ike decided he was going to have a talk with his brother, and he had twenty minutes or so before Destiny came.
‘Tay? Can I come in?’
‘Yeah. You will, I guess, sometime……actually…..’ Ike trailed off.
‘Actually what?’ Zac asked curiously.
‘Well, it’s just that Destiny and I are going to hang out after the concert tomorrow. It’s no big deal really, we’re just gonna get something to eat or something.’ Ike tried to shrug it off but snuck a glance in Tay’s direction.
He knew Tay would not be impressed but he hoped he was at least enough over her to let Ike have a go.
‘Did I mention she’s a big fan and was at our concert the other day?’ Ike rushed on in an effort to sidetrack Tay from what he’d just said.
But Tay didn’t seem to be listening.
Last night had been hell.
Not only had he still been hung up on his mystery girl, now he had Destiny to think about.
And what had Ike said about today?
They were going to hang out after the concert or something?
Nah. Ike wouldn’t do that.
He knew how much Destiny still meant to him.
Walking along East Eighth Street, Tay found a Gap store and wandered in.
What would Destiny look like? He wondered.
Would she look the same?
The same dark, dark hair?
The same piercing blue eyes?
Fumbling around the store, Tay tried to find something, anything to keep his mind off the two girls.
He found a cool shirt and decided to go try it on.
Walking up to the counter to inquire where the change rooms were, he noticed a girl with long dark hair at the counter already being served.
He waited patiently behind her.
His gaze wandered as he waited for his turn.
The ring of the cash register brought him back as he realized the girl was finishing and it would be his turn.
He stepped up a few steps towards the counter as the girl turned to walk away.
All time seemed to stop as they locked eyes.
The sounds of the radio and the other shoppers blended in together and Tay only became aware of her.
Her.
His angel from the concert.
The girl with the magical aura.
Was standing in front of him.
Before he realized, she had broken the gaze and was walking out of the shop.
Tay dropped the shirt and stared after her.
‘Tay? Earth to Tay? Where are you man?’
‘Huh?’
‘I mean, you’re standing here in front of me but you are definitely not here. What’s your problem?’
Tay stared at his brother blankly before mumbling,
‘Her. I saw her.’
Zac didn’t quite catch it.
‘What? What’d you say?’
‘Damn it! I saw her again Zac!’ Tay raised his voice.
‘Who?’
‘My angel! She was in the Gap! I knew I would see her again!’
Zac shook his head incredulously.
‘My poor deluded brother. All the screaming must be finally getting to you. I think you’d better come sit down.’
‘I don’t want to sit down Zac! I’m not sick! I just saw the girl again ok? But I wouldn’t expect you to understand.’ Tay snapped before walking off.
Zac sat down and looked strangely after Tay and wondered what the hell was up with him.
What the hell was wrong with him?
He had some sick obsession with some girl he’d seen twice in his whole life.
He had even begun to get over her but then she’d popped up out of nowhere and put him in a spin.
And plus Destiny was back on the scene....
He felt like he was going insane.
It worried him, Tay NEVER acted this strange.
And the conversation he’d just had with Zac had spun him out.
Tay rambling on about some angel?
A scary thought crossed Ike’s mind.
Could he...no.
He couldn’t, he wouldn’t.
But there was always the possibility.
Ike tried to work out if there was any way that Tay could get a hold of drugs.
‘I guess.’
Ike opened the door and saw his brother slouched on the sofa staring at nothing in particular.
‘Tay? You wanna talk?’ Ike asked hesitantly.
To his surprise, Tay sat up immediately and nodded his head.
‘Yeah, actually I do.’
Tay tried to find a way to start the conversation.
‘Uh, see, I, well, I guess first I should apologize. For the way I treated you and Zac this week. I can’t say exactly why I did it, so….but I just want to apologize.’
