Date with Destiny.......
‘Actually Tay, you may be more than interested in where I was and who I was with.’ Ike grinned.
Tay’s eyes widened in surprise.
‘Ike, don’t flatter yourself. Unlike some people, it is not a necessity in my life to know everything you do.’ Tay walked on.
‘Oh but I think you might want to know this.’ Ike pressed, grinning from ear to ear.
Tay ignored him and stood by the passenger side door and waited for it to be unlocked so he could get in.
But even if Tay didn’t care, Ike had definitely made Zac curious.
‘Who Ike? Someone famous? It wasn’t someone I’d kill to meet was it?’
‘No Zac, nothing like that. Better!’ Ike unlocked the doors and they all piled in the car.
‘Oh, are you outta your mood yet Tay?’ Ike asked, gunning the engine.
‘Blah blah blah blah.’ Tay mimicked.
‘Even if I was, do you think I’d tell you?’
Ike shrugged.
‘Oh and incase you were wondering, I was with Destiny Harringbush all afternoon. Tay, you remember Destiny right?’
Destiny? HIS Destiny?
Ike couldn’t be serious.
‘Destiny?’ he whispered.
‘Yeah! I ran into her today, wow did she look hot! Funniest thing too…….’ But Tay had spaced out.
Destiny Harringbush. Destiny Harringbush.
Tay felt his heart contract as he thought about her.
Destiny had lived down the street from the Hanson’s for almost twelve years, leaving just before Tay had turned thirteen.
The two of them had been best friends but Tay had always been in love with her.
And even now, after she had left, never to be heard from again until now, Tay still held a place for her in his heart.
‘…yeah, she’s living in Seattle, I told her we’d be here……gave her our address……catch up sometime…….she was really hot!’
Tay caught bits and pieces of Ike’s conversation through his daydream.
‘Did she say anything about me?’ Tay suddenly blurted out.
‘Jeez Tay! I thought you’d gotten over her already!’ Ike laughed.
‘I have. I am over her, I just asked if she mentioned me that’s all.’ Tay’s reply came out a little rushed.
‘Well, actually, she did ask about you…’
Tay’s heart leapt.
‘…and Zac and mom and dad and the kids. She seemed really interested in our music too.’
And it flopped back down again.
Obviously distance had not made Destiny’s heart any fonder.
‘When are we gonna see her?’ Zac asked from the backseat.
‘Well, I told her I’d get in touch with her. It depends on when we can get a spare day or so.’
