Epilogue ~ Flying with the angels.......
On a scrap of paper tucked in the back of an old dream-book, written in ink the color of midnight, a poem long forgotten but always remembered caught the eye of a nineteen-year old freshman at the University of Tulsa.
With curiosity, she pulled it out and began reading.
By the time she was half way through the tears streaming endlessly down her face had smudged the writing to almost ineligible.
But it didn’t matter.
For since the day the words had poured out onto the paper three long years ago, they had been imprinted on her heart, and her soul.
And even as she’d written them, they’d been thrown against the stars.
And there they would stay, forever.
Among the angels.
Somewhere in the stars
your soul has taken flight
and I can feel deep in mine
your heart is free tonight.
Somewhere in God’s world
you have found your release
and even if you had to leave me
I know you have finally found your peace.
Somewhere in my heart
I understand why you had to go away
for angels have to fly
and God never meant for you to stay.
Somewhere He decided
your time with us was done
and he came and took your hand
and brought you up to face the sun.
Somewhere way above us all
you’re flying with the angels now
and even though the stars between us
you are with me still somehow.
So even though I’ll miss you
and tears will be never far from me
I know that He only took you
to finally set you free.
