vegae (Jon R. King pers. comm.), though the tertials are perhaps

Fig 2) This bird is not as boldly-checkered as the one above,
and the scapulars seem to be replaced by first winter feathers,
even though the bird is younger. Note that both birds are more
delicately-structured than most smithsonianus. Japan. December.
