What place am I talking about?
I am speaking of Cuddle Land, the virtual community that exists on the newsgroup alt.cuddle. If you haven't experienced it, you really should. I stumbled upon the group quite by happy accident (the same way I find most of the really good stuff on the internet ;) . I was in a really bad mood, and my first response upon reading the posts and messages was "What kind of fluffy garbage is this?" , but after reading a few I found myself actually enjoying it. No...its more than that. I began to feel different, better some how. People in need of support, or encouragement, or simply a kind word or two will post a message, and the resident posters will literally flood the newcomer with virtual hugs and happy sentiment.
Its a kind of magick, I think. The best kind of magick there is. Some people frequent the group to get the emotional support they need to get over a rough spot in their lives. Others get a special feeling from being able to provide that support to those who need it. Even if I don't have time to post anything, I still get a lift just from reading the posts. Some of the writing is beautifully done, with the posters taking on a personna and writing as if Cuddle Land where an actual physical place. However, that type of post is not at all required if you wish to participate.
You may be surprised, once you get to know the people that post on the group. Elves, Goths, and Faeries are among some of the regulars. It is a wonderful way for people to balance the "dark" with some "light". And it really goes to show you that you cannot judge a book by its cover. Citizens of the Dark Realm need Hugs too!!!

Cuddle Land/alt.cuddle is indeed a safe haven in the rough and tumble world of the Internet, but the group is not moderated. Once upon a time.....there was a magickal land. A place where everyone came together in peace, and love, and support, and laughter. All netcitizens are welcome here, it doesn't matter who you are in "real life", or what you do for a living. Hugs and Cuddles are the coins of the realm, and they are exchanged freely between the inhabitants without strings or reservations.
