What is meningitis?
- There are 2 types of meningitis: bacterial and viral meningitis.
- Meningitis is an infection of the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis is the inflammation of the meninges.
- The meninges is infected by viruses or
bacteria that enter through the bloodstream. This area of the body has no
"host defenses" to fight off invading bacteria, which allows duplication of
the duplicating organism.
- Meningitis is a rare bacterial infection of fluid surrounding the brain and in the spinal cord.
