Students observe trees of the target species (click here to go to species list) every fortnight according to the schedule below. Any tree species that are flowering or fruiting are given a simple score, depending on how many trees are flowering or fruiting, and on whether the trees are "native to the area" or planted.

I realise that it might not be possible to collect data on all of these dates, after all there are various holidays to take into account as well. I am hopeful however that a few keen people around the country might take the time to note what is happening during their holidays. Plants don't take a holiday unfortunately. In 1995 I took Christmas day off and missed the flowering of Northern Rata in Auckland. No holidays for me this year. 1
