CUTLER,ME--Fire destroyed a greenhouse and outbuilding at the home of Ernestine Atwood on Route 191. Firefighters, including members from the Cutler Naval Fire Department, were able to contain the fire before the Atwood home was damaged.

February 24, 1999--JONESBORO,ME--A fire damaged a small storage building at the home of Paula Nystrom on Looks Point Road. That fire burned 3 acres of grass and brush.

February 24, 1999--CHERRYFIELD,ME--Hot stove ashes were blamed for a fire that burned 2 acres of grass, brush and blueberry lands at the home of Richard Willey on Tenan Lane in

Hope Fire Towers----3-4 acre woods fires in Dover,NH off Blackwater Rd & Madbury,NH off Mill Hill Rd-Both spotted by the Agamenticus, Mt.Hope & Blue Job Fire Towers

April 6, 1999--HEADS-UP! We are reaching a critical point in time now where any fires can be expected to burn hotter and deeper than normal for the spring fires! PLEASE be careful on any direct fire suppression. Especially on the windy days we've been having. Let's not get lulled into a false sense of security that it's only the spring fires! To date in 1999 we have had 134 fires burn 89 acres and multiple structures! Bob Stewart (Forestry 10) and I have been watching conditions over the last few weeks and the 10,100, and even the 1000 hr.fuels are much drier than normal for this time of year! Anyone with information on the ice storm damaged areas in your area please forward the information back to us as we are trying very hard this year to keep on top of the conditions which are changing daily. Anyone seeing erratic or unusual fire behavior in your areas please let us know! This includes fires burning deep into the ground as was experienced in Raymond this past Sunday, they had a fire that burned 12" into the ground! Unheard of for this time of year! APRIL 8,1999--WESTFIELD,MA-- The Deputy Fire Chief from the Russell,MA Fire Dept. has died from a heart attack while fighting a brush fire on Tekoa Mountain in Westfield MA. The fire has been going for 10 hours and is still out of control despite water drops from Air National Guard and Air Force helicoptors. The fire is now coming down the mountain toward several houses. Fire fighters from several communties are standing by to try and save these houses.

APRIL 18,1999- 10 ACRES BURN IN EASTBROOK, MAINE Firefighters and a helicopter from the Maine Forest Service fought a blueberry burn off Webb Pond Road on Sunday afternoon. Wind picked up in the late morning, causing the fire to skip across fire lines and gravel roads around the blueberry field. The fire burned about 10 acres outside the blueberry field. Crews from Eastbrook, Franklin and Waltham, fought the fire.

APRIL 19,1999- N.H. Forest Service reports thats of today- New Hampshire Forest Service reports that so far this year, there have been 410 Fires that have destroyed 204 acres and damaged/destroyed 24 structures

APRIL 19,1999- Fire Chief saves barn from Escaped Permited burn!--Lebanon, Maine - The Fire Chief used a nearby garden hose to save a barn from a permitted fire that spread out of control on the Godding Road Sunday afternoon. The fire did cause at least $1,500 damage to the barn. The brush fire began in a backyard fire for which the property owner had received permission, but which was not properly extinguished. The fire spread quickly with the high winds and burned over about 2.5 acres of land.

AUGUST 3,1999-Woods Fire in Warner,NH--very remote fire off Old Warner Rd near the Henniker town line. About 3 acres involved and was sparked by an old lightning strike.-Smaller fires were reported in Rochester, Acworth and Rochester,NH. Also fires in Sanford,Gorham, Kittery and Bowdoin,ME were keeping crews busy as conditions continue to become seriously dry.

AUGUST 7,1999-Woods Fire in Gilmanton,NH--burning off the Crystal Lake Rd in a remote area near the Hidden Valley Scout Camp-M/A companies working & NH Forest Service.Bristol,Maine-woods fire burning off the Old County Road

AUGUST 18,1999-Woods Fire in York,ME--remotely burning off the Woodbridge Rd behind the old Central Maine Power building. Crews could only get hand tools to the scene of the that was caused by a lightning strike from the day before.

SEPTEMBER 1,1999-Woods Fire in Waterboro,ME--remotely burning off the Middle Rd on the side of Ossipee Mt. The fire was spotted by the Ossipee Hill fire tower with help from Green Mt & Mt.Agamenticus towers. Extensive mutual aid was called with additional assistance from the Wildland Firefighters of York County, the York County Emergency Management Agency, Southern Maine Fire Notification personel and Red Cross Disaster refreshment van. This one was caused from a week old lighting strike! Other woods fires in Corninna,ME along the Sebasticook River burned 2 acres Portsmouth,NH (spotted by Agamenticus fire tower) & Rumney,NH on Rattlesnake Mountain kept crews busy. The Southern Maine area is becoming dangerously dry due to lack of rain for an extended period of time.

SEPTEMBER 2,1999-Woods Fire in Waterboro,ME--on the side of Ossipee Hill continues to burn in the ground and requiring extensive hand tool work today. Durham,ME-woods fire on the Davis Road requiring extensive mutual aid and water drops--Bucksport,ME has a woods fire on the East Bucksport Rd with choppers dropping water, 3 acres burned in Great Pond Township,ME and requiring lots of digging out hot spots.

SEPTEMBER 3,1999-Woods Fire in Bucksport,ME--on the East Bucksport Rd is continuing to burn in the ground and requiring extensive hand tool work today from many area fire departments. Small woods fire in Nottingham,NH off the Stage Rd brought crews to work this morning and in West Paris,MEoff Oxford St., a woods fire is burning with several surrounding towns responding to assist.Bowtown Township,ME (NW of Caratunk) just north of Otter Pond Mt. Large woods fire burning-crews assembling at Caratunk. Woods fire in Pownal,MEoff the Chadsey Rd -M/A from surrounding towns responding. The Agamenticus fire tower has spotted a woods fire behind the landfill in Wells,ME, companies trying to gain control.Woods fire in Newport,MEon the Rutland Rd has crews from several towns working as well as a chopper. A woods fire in Milford,ME on the Old County is requiring the request for a chopper and additional manpower.

Small woods fire in Enfield,NH on top of Whaleback Mt by the Ski area-Fire destroyed a building at the top.Windham,MEoff Rt.302 near Mt.Hunger, a woods fire has burned 4 acres with several surrounding towns responding as did a MFS Chopper for water drops. Firefighters in Old Orchard Beach,ME are working a woods fire on an island near Goosefare Brook.
