Hi, my name is Todd Olson. I really enjoyed
looking at your home page. I feel we're some what alike because
when I was ten years old I had cancer also. I had a brain tumor
located in between my optical nerve and my pituitary gland. It
caused total blindness in my left eye and reduced the vision in my
right eye to reduce to 20/100. I then underwent radiation treatments
which dissolved the cancer and my eyesight stabilized. I'm now
17 years old and in 11th grade. This experience changed my life
and I have learned a lot from it. Again I've really enjoyed visiting

Duggan,
I too was discovered to have a crainiopharyinginoma
when I was 18. My symptoms did not set in until I was
16 when I began losing weight and eventually lost most
of my sight. I was able to graduate from High School,
even though I missed most of my Senior year due to lack
of energy. I grew up in Nebraska in a small town.
All the doctors in the area said I was just lazy, and they
couldn't find anything wrong with me. Finally, I lost most
of my vision and started getting double vision. They
listened when they found I had tunnel vision and
20/200 sight. I under went my surgery at
Univ. of Neb Med. Center in Omaha. I am familiar with
your doctor at UCSF. I am now 33 and have led a very
normal life. I had to go through 2 surgeries (Transphynoidal
and then Craniotomy) followed by radiation, because the
tumor recurred after 4 months. I went to college and
finished 2nd in my class in Chemical Engineering from
Kansas State Univ.
I was married about 1.25 years ago while living in the
San Fran Bay Area, and as you know, because of my condition
I need to take hormones to stimulate sperm production. I have
been on the treatment for over 6 months. Unfortunately my
insurance company is refusing to pay for my treatment saying it
is due to infertility. In reality it is due to my pituitary condition.
We may have to go to court. I am searching for information from
others similar to me.

Duggan, I was dx with a nonfunctioning macroadenoma the
middle of October and had transsphenoidal surgery November 1.
I am still at home but plan to return to work tomorrow. My
surgery and recoup period was easy, thank goodness. The period
leading up to the surgery was the worse, I believe. It sounds
as if you have a wonderful outlook and certainly do not let this

Hello Duggan,
I enjoyed reading your home page and your experience with
a pituitary tumr. I also suffer from the same affliction. I am
38 years old and I was diagnosed with it last spring. I started to
loose my vision in my left eye and found out after a barage of
tests I had a 5 x 4.5 tumor which was pressing on my optic nerve.
I have and excellent Surgeon and Endocrinologist. I have had two
surgeries and also a Gamma knife Radiation treatment. I also lost my
drivers license for a while and I was later released two months later
to drive again. I must confess my doctor was a bit optimistic. As
soon as I went back to work it was a 360 degree turn around. They did
not want me back because of my tumor. I took four months of brutal
harassment and finally got lucky enough to get another job. I know
work for one of your major Online services. I am treated like anyone
else who works here. It is a big company and they must follow federal
guidelines. My eyesight has not completely came back. I have some
loss in the upper left quadrant of my left eye. Since my surgery my
sinuses have improved considerably. Unfortuantely I still experience
truble around string smells. Cigarette smoke is one of them. Well I
must go nice reading your home page.
