Kibbutz Gazit
Kibbutz Gazit is located on the hills of Isaskhar in the Lower Galilee.
It is ten kilometers south of Kfar Tavor, and some 25 kilometers from
Afula. Kibbutz Gazit belongs to the Kibbutz Artzi Movement of Hashomer
Hatzair. It was founded in 1947 by young immigrants from Turkey,
Romania, and Poland. Two years later a large group of young people from
the youth movement Hashomer Hatzair in South America joined the young
kibbutz. An especially large number of these new members came from
Argentina, thus Gazit is also called the first Argentinean kibbutz.
Today there are approximately 650 people living on Kibbutz Gazit. There
are 165 families, 200 children, 40 candidates for membership, 20 elderly
parents of members, and 20 young people serving their compulsory duty in
the army.
The kibbutz makes its living from a wide variety of agricultural
activities including field crops, orchards, cattle, and sheep, as
well as a large industrial factory which produces various plastic
products and employs 130 kibbutz members in addition to workers
from the area.
