Sorry this page hasn't been updated in almost a year! I feel terrible! There has been a lot of news, but I haven't been able to update due to my busy schedule. Katie returned to club competition on January 9th, 1999, competing bars and beam as a level 10 at the Twistars Invitational. She had a fall on bars, but placed 3rd on beam I believe. I will try to get the official results, and soon will be putting up a nice piece written by Kathryn Geddert about Katie's return. Also, Katie has accepted a full athletic scholarship to the University of Massachutsetts and will be going there next year. We wish her the best in her collegiate career. Katie continued to compete with her level 10 team in Arizona and Florida this winter. The team had lots of fun in Arizona, and posed in their warmup leos at a canyon. Other gymnasts on the trip included Shelley Harris, Jamie Duce, Brandi Killian, Katie and Andi Dama, and their coach John Geddert. I will also try to get the results from those meets. The bad news is that on March 6th, Katie suffered an injury at Regionals for her high school team. She was warming up her bars dismount, and hurt her ankle, possibly broke it. She was not able to compete, and so will not be able to compete at States. Her team got a score of 133, but with Katie would probably had had at least a 135, and would have gone to States. We hope Katie feels better soon and her injury isn't too severe. It's great that she has been able to return to competition to some extent! More updates ASAP!

New news from Katie, from a letter recieved 1 1/2 weeks ago...she says, "I'm excited because I can do a little gymnastics. My back is a lot better but not well enough to do elite again. Hopefully with more rest I can do college. That is my main goal right now." We wish Katie the best of luck in her pursuit of college gymnastics. You can do it, Katie!!!

Yesterday, Saturday, March 14th, 1998, was a big day for Katie! She won the all-around title at the High School State Meet for Michigan, as well as placing first on bars and floor, 4th on beam, and 8th on vault! Good job, Katie. Katie said "It was a major step to come back from an injury and win this. I'm really excited." Teft also said her back is feeling a lot better, due to a lot of time "resting my back, icing my back, and working other parts of my body." The day also had a sad note to it, as Katie declared "My back is so much better now. I can't get back to the elite level, but hopefully I can do college gymnastics." I'm sure we're all sad to see Katie retire from the elite level, but we wish her the best of luck in her pursuit of college gymnastics. (Katie wants to attend Arizona State) We'll be sure to keep you updated of any new events!

It's true, Katie Teft is really doing high school gymnastics!!! There was an article in the "Grand Rapids Press" last weekend confirming our suspicions, and Katie said she likes the concept of high school gymnastics, and competing with a team. We will soon have a copy of this article on our site.

We've heard that Katie has been doing swimming and diving to stay in shape, and a friend was told by their high school gymnastics coach that Katie is doing high school gymnastics for Forest Hills Central!!! We don't know if this is true for sure, but we'll let you know once we confirm. Hopefully, this means her back is a little better, and maybe she'll be able to come back to club competition this summer. At least one of the webmasters will be at high school states in Michigan, hopefully we'll get some pictures and maybe be able to talk to Katie.

Katie was at the Twistars Invitational today, and she watched Dominique Moceanu do her demo on beam, and she chatted with some judge friends. Also, she talked with Dominique, and had lots of fun with her friends from Twistars, and saw her teammate Brandy Killian win the All-Around for the junior open optional competition. Later, Katie went to the meet party and showed off her dancing skills :)

Katie is excited that she got her drivers license and is going to college in 1 1/2 years. She says she sees this page sometimes during her computer class at school. She also thinks that the get well card some people helped make her was really cool.

Katie went to Spartan Gymnastics camp after Olympic Trials since she wasn't allowed to work out with the Twistars team that was training there. She was in the top group and said she wanted to learn a handspring-double front on vault!
