Kitchen Makeover!

I would like to invite you to come along
with me as I start from the beginning redoing my kitchen. Jeff just told me last
week (5/98) that we would gut it and start over. We have new appliances and really
only need to buy a new sink/faucet and new cabinets. My friend Peggy just put on a
formica counter top in blues that I love, but Jeff says we will go with granite. I
saw a pink granite that I liked - so we will see how much it costs!
Most of you dream of creating a kitchen - it makes me shutter.
I do not like to cook and I hate woodgrain. So where does that leave me?
Stainless steel? Formica cabinets? If it were up to me I would do it all
without cabinets, but then we must have them. So I have decided to use a white
washed wood (depending on the wall treatment I use, I may wash the wood green or blue).
We have NO natural light in our kitchen, but we are considering a skylight.
We have installed a 3 unit spotlight in place of the old fixture. In spite of my mother's
love of stainless steel sinks - I am going with a porcelain one (sorry mom!) I am
going to move our refrigerator over to the
wall where the pantry (closet) now is and we will make a
pantry in the 4½' area where the fridge now sits. These pictures are from my cheap
3-D home design program, Visual Home. It does the job. Below is the propsed floor
plan. I will not put up the sofit above the cabinets & leave that open as a
shelf. Between the kitchen & the family room we will redo the bar that sits
there now, adding rounded end shelves.
Well, this is just the beginning & my
first thing to do is figure out how many cabinets we need, how much a new sink &
faucet will cost, how much & what kind of counter top to get, we will continue our
blue ceramic tile into the kitchen (Jeff did the laundry room - it looks great!). So
keep an eye on our page & watch - see what we end up with - hopefully - by July 98 it
will be done. Soon there will be nothing left for Jeff to do & he will have
to tackle our master bath suite! See ya - I'm off to the hardware store!
