"Everything I Do For You"

Simon
This is Simon. To look at him here you wouldn't think that he had been abused, would you? But he was. He was found chained to a fence behind Acme in the middle of a snowstorm. He'd been there for 3 days, and he was only 3 or 4 months old. When he was adopted by one of the volunteers that I worked Monday night with he still had the scar on his neck from where they had to surgically remove his collar. I will never understand how "man" can do this to another living creature. Simon smiling

Simon and Brenda I was lucky enough to have Simon as one of my Monday night volunteers, along with his Mom, Brenda.  Here they are with a little puppy that we had in the shelter.  Simon really enjoys coming in.  Of course, he is always rooting around the cat cages looking for food that has dropped out.

And if his mom ever got out of his sight (which happened from time to time) he would do his best beagle bay. We were always impressed that all that sound came out of that little body.
In the summertime we used to go over to the local custard stand for ice cream after closing up the shelter. I think Simon liked vanilla the best but he would eat all we gave him. He was always a little intimidated when there were too many people standing around but after what he went through when he was little, I could hardly blame him.

Brenda also told me that Simon likes to carry bites of his food from the kitchen into the livingroom and eat them and then return to the kitchen for more. I don't know if this is a beagle trait or not but I thought it was particularlly cute, but messy. I have also discovered recently that Simon has a girlfriend. She is a yellow lab that lives nearby. Here are a few more pictures of the big guy.

We aren't doing Monday nights anymore and I don't get to see him very much.
I miss seeing him.

Simon lives with his mom and kitty, Princess that he keeps in line; or at least that is what his mom says. I have only seen Princess a couple of times but for a long time I thought she really didn't exist at all.

Princess recently joined our pages as one of my kitty, Rufus', girlfriends. Here is the lovely picture her mom sent to me. Click on the picture to go to meet more of Rufus' girlfriends.

I was lucky enough to visit Simon in his home recently and he is still the sweet little guy I remember. At that time he was recovering from surgery. He would probably be embarrassed when I tell you he had surgery to remove his anal gland because it was a constant problem for him. Poor little guy. He had some reiki done on him that night and apparently it did some good, and he wanted to keep the reiki master as a pet, but she had to go home. I really saw that night how reiki can benefit an animal or person if they are receptive to it.

UPDATE ON SIMON: Simon has added something new in his life. He now has his own webcam so we can watch him sleep all day. Please visit him and watch how tired he will make you as you watch him sleep.
If you take any good pictures of him, let me know. His webcam is active from 8 to 5 EST Monday - Friday.

And if you haven't been able to catch a picture of him yet, click HERE to see The Best of Simon.

One last side note: The music playing in the background is really special to me as our shelter did what we called a "Pet Ball" where people would pay for dinner and bring their animals dressed up and present them for everyone to meet. We would also have a video of several of the shelter animals before that and this particular year "Everything I Do For You" was the song and there wasn't a dry eye in the house that night when the video finished. Today it still brings tears when I hear this song. And be sure to check out Simon's friend EILEEN before you leave. She is another friend of mine that has a sad story to tell with a happy ending.

Christmas 1999: I just received a Christmas card from Simon and his mom that was taken at Petsmart with Santa and I thought I would share it with you. It is a typical "Simon" look. I know he's a little scared of Santa but went along with it all to make his mom happy.

Christmas 2000: Well I got to have Christmas dinner with two of my favorite shelter animals - Simon and Eileen. Simon looked very dapper in his little blue sweater, don't you think?

Simon was a little upset with Eileen's doggie brother, Bernie, but once Simon gave Bernie "the rules of the evening" everything went find.

In 2001 Simon made a really BIG change in his life and he has moved to another state. Now the only way I can see the little guy is to watch his cam like everyone else. We hope he really enjoys his new home and sends us pictures and stories so we can continue to update you on how he is doing.

Also, please check out this Beagle Rescue Site we found. If you are in the California area and could open your heart, there are some great little guys out there needing homes. Click HERE to get there. And I applaud ALL the rescue groups for their efforts to unite their particular breed with loving homes.
