The SECOND AMENDMENT to the Constitution of the United
States of America reads,
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of
a free state, the right of the people to KEEP and BEAR ARMS,
shall not be infringed.
I am a strong believer of our rights as laid down by the
Constitution. I find that in this day and age there are
people that have no regard what so ever for the rights of
the people. Just as long as things go to suit them, they are
pleased. Too many times the ones that talk, protest and over
react are ones that have no idea of what they are even
talking about. They get something in their mind and because
they deem it not to fit their wants and desires, they will
do all that is in their power to overturn a right that was
granted to us by the Founders of this Nation.
I am basically talking about the Second Amendment in this
writing. There are other issues with other amendments that
are falling under the same bombardment as is the Second
Amendment.
We live in a country where a person can take a gun and go to
a local convenience store and rob and shoot someone for
money. This same person can go to a school and injure and
kill children. This same person can shoot and kill a law
enforcement officer. This same person can commit thousands
of crimes that we as a nation have deemed should not be a
part of our society.
Every time this person commits one of these crimes, there
are those that forget what the man did or what made him do
it. All they seem to be concerned is, The Gun Did IT. Then
they scream for more and more gun laws.
Lets think about this for a minute. Gun Control Laws, do
they work? Will more laws make this a safer nation? Will
more gun laws cause the crime rate to go down? Will more
gun laws stop people from robbing and killing others? Will
more gun laws make a person obey the laws and not use the
guns for criminal activities?
When most of the people that seem to protest and scream the
loudest about more laws, it is the fact that in this
country there are over 20,000 gun laws. Now, if you think
that more laws will make a person stop and not commit a
crime just because it is against the law, you are a crazy as
a loon.
I say that what will make the crime rate go down is for
our country to apply the laws that are already on the books
of every state in the union as well as the federal laws.
Only then will we see the gun related crime rates go down.
A few years back there was a man that shot and killed some
children in a California school yard. The big protest was
not so much about the man but, the gun. Come to find out,
the man had been arrested multiple times for weapons
violations. NOTHING was ever done to him about it. If the
state had applied the laws that were on the books, the man
would not have been out walking the streets and killing
children.
Also, a few years back, a young man tried to get on a plane
in Nashville, TN. He was carrying a hand gun. He was caught,
detained and released without applying the laws that were on
the books of the state of Tennessee. If the laws had been
applied, the young man would have been in jail instead of
being in Washington, DC six weeks later shooting our
President. Again, the big protest that came out of this was
not the fact that the man committed a crime, It was for more
gun control laws.
We are trying to figure out about all the gun related crimes
in our schools. A year or so back over 6000 children had
violated laws dealing with guns. Our Justice System took
only nine of these cases to trial. This is where it all went
wrong. Why in the world can we sit back and blame the gun
for everything that goes wrong in our society? It is a very
simple thing to do. When a person commits a crime. Arrest
him, DO NOT LET HIM SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS. Try the person
and if he is found guilty, THEN SEND HIM TO PRISON AND DON'T
LET HIM OUT UNTIL HE HAS SERVED HIS SENTENCE. One sure thing
about this is, at least while he is in prison, he will not
be committing crimes against the public.
The most restrictive society that I know of is our Prison
System. The prisoners are locked up, they are watched, they
are searched, they are restricted from the outside world and
still, even with all of this, these criminals still get
their hands on guns as well as dope. But oh yes, we will
still have those that will protest and scream for more gun
control laws.
There are some states that have voted to permit it's
citizens to carry concealed hand guns. The cry that came up
against this issue was unreal but, no one stopped to think
that it was the majority of the people of the state that
voted to allow this law to come into being. Where one person
screams to do away with guns and wants more gun laws, there
are 100 people that quietly vote to be able to protect
themselves and to carry concealed hand guns.
As to carrying a concealed hand gun with a license. The
person has to go to a class and study about the right that
he or she is trying to obtain. Then the person is taken to a
range and tested to see if they know the safety procedures
concerning the gun. Then they are tested to see if they can
pass a test as to their shooting skills.
You may say that this does not qualify a person to obtain a
license to carry. I forgot to mention that a person goes
down before the testing begins and has their finger prints
taken by the Police Department. They are photographed. All
of this information is sent to the Department of Public
Safety. A back ground check is then done on that person. He
is checked back as far as records go. If the person has ever
been convicted of a felony, had anything other than an
honorable discharge from the Armed Forces, ever filed on for
domestic violence, late with or dead beat on child support
payments and a lot more things I can mention, he WILL NOT be
issued a license.
If for some reason the person with Concealed Carry License
is stopped and asked to show his identification, he will
produce both licenses for the officer. That officer will
know that in order for this person to be carrying this
Concealed Carry License the person has gone through a back
ground check that the average public will never have to go
through. He will automatically know that the person is
squeaky clean.
There is no way that our law enforcement system can protect
all of the citizens. It is up to us to do a little
protecting of our own. In states and cities where the gun
laws are the most restrictive is where the crime rate is
over the top. Crime with guns are out of sight. In the
states and cities where citizens have the right to carry
concealed weapons and where the gun laws are the least
restrictive, the crime rates are down in these areas. In
most of the cases, as soon as concealed carry licenses are
issued, the crime rate went down within a short time.
The criminals are not worried about how many more laws we
have on our books about guns. They could not care less if we
had a million laws on the books. Laws do not stop the
criminals from committing crimes. They are only concerned
about the laws when they are caught and sent to jail. Then
the idea of law is another matter with them.
Where would it be wrong to send a man to prison if he
committed a crime and keep him there for the length of time
the jury and court set for his punishment? Also, if that
person commits a crime with a gun, then add about fifteen or
twenty more years to his sentence and MAKE him serve every
minute of his sentenced time. Then we might just see a
reduction in crime. Even then, there are those that think
they are above the law and will test the system.
Problem with our system is, we talk a big talk but, when it
comes to doing something about the crime in this country, we
are a bunch of whimps. The same laws that apply to our guns
ought to apply to the ones that deal, promote and grow the
narcotics that is tearing this country down each and every
hour.
I was issued a weapon to help defend this nation our ours.
No one seemed to worry about whether I could do my job and
for most of the ones that went the other way when it came
their time, were probably glad to see myself and others
doing what we did with guns.
Now some of the leaders of this great nation of ours thinks
that just because we could defend our Nation with a gun,
that we should not be able to defend our Family, Homes and
ourselves with a gun. God Bless America and God Bless the
First and Second Amendments. God knew what he was doing when
he allowed our Forefathers to put those two things into Our
Constitution.
In case you are wondering what the FIRST AMENDMENT is, it
has a very deep meaning to all of our people. It reads,
Congress shall make no laws respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise there of; or
abridging the freedom of free speech, or of the press; or
the rights of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the Government for redress of grievances.
