ALL ABOUT SMOKEY

Hi, I'm Smokey. Welcome to my Web Pages. I guess a little
run down on who and what I am about, would be in order.
I am 64 years old and was born in Odessa, Texas on
6 June 1941. Moved here, to north central Texas when I was
young and have been here every since. I went to school in Burleson TX
    and graduated in 1959.

I then met a little gal that knocked my hat in the creek and
married her. Spent all of my adult life, loving
and taking care of her. During that time we raised three
children. One girl and two boys. To top that off, We have
four grand children and one great-grand child. All boys! I lost my wife to Pancreatic
Cancer on Christmas Eve of 1990. It sure did knock the
    props out from under me.

I went in the U.S.Navy in 1959 and went through Medical
School at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, Ca. I spent my
enlistment as a Corpsman. Then got out of the Navy and
worked a short while for the U.S.Army as a crash firefighter.
When the base was closed down, I went to work for the
Texas & Pacific Rwy. As time went on and corporate take
overs took place, I worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad
and finally the Union Pacific Railroad. I retired from the
Railroad on 1 April 1996 on disability with over thirty
years. I now look after my place and travel around with
    my 5th wheel travel trailer.

While working for the Railroad, I was a Switchman, Brakeman,
and Conductor. Was President of United Transportation
    Local 243 for six years.

After my wife went to be with the Lord, I started writing. I wrote a couple
of manuscripts and then being that I had never written a poem,
I gave it a try. Have been writing poetry since March of
1995. It really has been a blessing for me.
You will see some of my poetry as you check out the pages in
    in my site.

I belong to several organizations. Am a life member of the
United Transportation Union, Local 243. Life member of
Veteran's of Forign Wars, Post 9299. Member of American
Legion Post 549. Member of Johnson County Texas, Veteran's
Council and member of National Association of Uniformed
Services. I also belong to two military groups. The American
Association Of Navy Hospital Corpsmen and a Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
    Veterans Group.

I am a member and attend the Church Of Christ in Burleson,
    Texas.

As to hobbies. As I stated, I like to write. I camp and RV. I
also like to make craft things like ear rings and key chains.
I have a lot of fun making them and then I give them away.
Playing with the computer is another thing I like to do.

The first day that I worked on the Railroad, my conductor
asked me what I had been doing before coming to the Railroad.
I said that I was a fire fighter and he started calling me
Smokey The Bear. They finally dropped the bear, and left me
with the name Smokey. I have had it and gone by it for the past
forty years. The name has grown on me.
To tell the truth, I perfer it to my real name. With the fire
fighting I did in the military, the U.S.Army and Volunteer
Fire Department in my home town, it all adds up to a total
of twenty-two years that I fought fire.

Now, you have had a fast rundown of my life for the past
sixty-three years. Maybe it will in some way explain some of
the things you will be reading and seeing.

If you are strong willed enough, you might check out the
    next page.
