A SOCK IS A SOCK

A SOCK BY ANY OTHER COLOR IS STILL A SOCK

Renkowned Scientist Dr. Albert Einstein had only one color/type of suit in his closet--Brown. No matter which was to be worn they were sure to match--so he could concentrate all his mental energies on the pressing problems at hand. The U.S. Army is like this exactly in the opposite way--it has hundreds of meaningless complications that robs Soldiers from concentrating on fighting/winning wars. One complication is socks--green ones for in the field, black for dress uniforms, white for PT. The answer would be to go to a BLACK sock for ALL uses instead of cluttering duffel bags for deployment. If black socks with the PT uniform doesn't look "cool" we can make it so because fashion is what we decide it to be--we have people wearing torn blue jeans and greens tints in their hair--what's wrong with wearing black socks with grey PT shirt/shorts and black watchcap and black gloves? Is this the U.S. Army of MTV? "U.S. Army" in black block letters...the colors match together. Think about it.

A good place to start is by dyeing all your OD green socks black. Don't buy anymore OD green or white socks. Keep only enough white socks on hand to blend in with other Soldiers when sweatpants are not being worn. The uniform regulations should be changed to one color of socks: black. The more we can simplify our lives, the better we will be able to spend our energies on important things instead of being overcome by events due to our cluttered lives.

A Black sock of wool/polypropylene would look good in dress shoes via a smooth appearance, yet be functional to wick away perspiration via the polypro and warm/cushioning via the wool for use in the field.
