The Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps began to take shape in 1967 by a group of officers of the former Hong Kong Royal Naval Reserve. The formation of the Corps took place on 16th February 1968 and incorporated under the Hong Kong Law(Chapter 1134-Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps Ordinance).
The Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps was modeled after and in affiliation with the Sea Cadet Corps of United Kingdom. Since the time of inception, the serving Governor was the Patron of the Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps, and the Royal Navy in Hong Kong provided regular supports for training of our officers & cadets, including training resources and facilities.
On 1st July 1997, the Corps transformed into an independent uniformed youth group. Following the departure of the Royal Navy, the Corps continues to seek supports from various Government departments and other youth organizations which includes Hong Kong Marine Police for providing nautical training to our members.
To provide recreational activities and nautical training to the youth of Hong Kong. To develop in its members such qualities of leadership, devotion to duty, self-respect and loyalty that they will become reliable and useful citizens of the community.
There are 12 Training Units across the territories with a total complement of 800 Sea Cadet (boys & girls aged between 12 and 18) in Hong Kong.

Apart from the normal scheduled training and outdoor activities, community services are also our commitments. These include manpower assistance to the local charitable organizations for fund raising; providing cadets for crowd control duties during public events and active participation in flag days etc.
Being one of the Operation Authorities appointed by the Award Council of the Hong Kong Award for Young People (formerly called the Duke of Edinburgh's Award) the Corps has rendered every effort to promote and assist our cadet members to pursue the various level of awards under the AYP Scheme.
Policy and directive to run the Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps are formulated by an Executive Committee under the direction of the Sea Cadet Council which is at present chaired by LI Kwan-ha, CBE, QPM, CPM and comprises renowned members of the community who have a genuine interest in the promotion of sea activities and training for young people.
The Commanding Officer, Captain Ernest W K CHAN, who is appointed by the Sea Cadet Council is the overall operational commander of the Corps. The day-to-day administration is undertaken by the Chief Staff Officer of the HKSCC Headquarters.
