Song Of Pride
The day came swiftly
Thinking not of those who asked that it
linger till the morrow.
The day he was told he must leave
Came, as though hastened by those who
really didn’t care.
Those who say with arrogant voices,
"Tis best for him"; those who love him
not, nor care for his life.
Yet, we know he will go,
As so we would, if we could for we
do love our country still.
It makes me think
How God loves us so much more to
continue his gracious blessings to outpour.
Your son; my friend;
He leaves today; today to go out and
prove himself a man.
You father, let him go
With a song of pride in your heart and
a word of advice on your lips.
His mother dear, you watch him leave
Without words; just a kiss, a tear, a
prayer for God’s guidance.
I, his friend, look to the future,
And in the distance watch him leave
with a prayer and hope-filled heart.
While you, his dear parents,
With compassionate love recall the
past-his thrilling boyhood.
I, yet perhaps a little more than a friend,
Wait to see his future fullfilled
when, by God’s love and grace, he returns to us.
