Name at Birth: James Bryan Bowling
Birth place: Lexington,Kentucky
I spent twelve years approximately in the Indiana
Soldiers & Sailors Childrens Home which stands the
reason for me being so-well disciplined. I have
always been so intrigued with the military. I
graduated from the Oliver P. Morton Memorial High
School Tigers in Knightstown; Indiana in 1964. Two
days later I joined up with the US ARMY. I took my
basic training at Fort Knox; Kentucky in June of
1964. Up on completion of my basic training I went to
Fort Gordon; Georgia for my Advanced Infantry
Training & the rest is history. Around the last of
Sept.1964 I believe that is correct. I was sent to
Fort Riley; Kansas with the BIG RED ONE-and assigned
to Charlie Company 2nd Battalion 28th Infantry
Regiment (Blacklion's). I remember going to Custer
Hill & renting a bike to ride around the Post. Some
of us Brother's used to run to Junction City; Kansas
to have fun. We humped alot of hills at Fort Riley &
did alot of Forest Marches & played war games in the
boonies. A year later I see all of the training paid
off. We boarded the USS General Daniel Sultan the
elements of the 1st Infantry Division on our way to
the NAM. Sept. 1965-through Oct. 1966 Lai Khe & Ben
Cat(waterhole). A hearty Blacklion to all my Nam
Bro's and the POW/MIA the real HEROES.
