Name: Michael J. Greene Website: Referred by: Net Search From: Charlestown, Massachusetts Time: 1997-07-23 07:49:00 Comments: WOW! I've been looking for a site like this for some time now. I'm a Reserve First Lieutenant in a non-artillery unit (LANES training). I'm now using your page to identify artillery units in New England, so I can (hopefully) get into a troop unit. Are there any plans to expand this site to include training information, field manuals, etc? Someone in the guestbook inquired about the name "Redleg" given to US Artillerymen...Back in the earlier years of American Artillery, branches were distinguished by the colour of the stripe down the trouser seams. Artillerymen wore - you guessed it - red. Thus we acquired the moniker of "Redlegs." Another inquiry was about the selection of St. Barbara as the patron saint of the Artillery. Please visit the Ft. Sill web site (linked from Ubique) to get the story. They tell it better than I could. Keep the rounds headed down range. Shot, over! |
