The articles above came from my grandfather's local paper in Bloomfield, NJ. The telegrams were sent to Woodie's father, James. This news was almost certainly detrimental to his health, as MIA was usually a synonym for KIA, particularly in the Army Air Force. Most crews never made it to the 25 mission requirement to complete their tour, and almost none did it without losing crewmembers along the way. Woodie was very fortunate in this respect, never losing a crewmember during the war.
