THEY SAY WE'RE FROM SCOTLAND. AND THE NAME MEANS "dweller in the smooth grass",
ALL I KNOW IS THAT I CAN BE INTRODUCED TO SOMEONE AND FOR SOME REASON THEY NEVER FORGET MY NAME.

WHILE IN IN THE AIR FORCE OVER IN GERMANY A FRIEND STARTED CALLING ME SCHNAAAAHHD(WITH THE THE THREE STOOGES 'CURLY' INTONATION OF 'OH WISE GUY') AND FROM THEN ON I WOULD HEAR IT WHILE WALKING DOWN THE COMPOUND. PEOPLE I HAD NEVER MET BEFORE WOULD WAVE AND YELL 'SCHNOD'. IT IS A NAME THAT STICKS IN PEOPLES HEAD.

SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE TO SAY THE NAME AND THUS COME UP WITH VARIATIONS, AT WORK THEY CALL ME MR. GRASS, "D", SNOD, AND HEY YOU.

I HAVE BEEN CALLED WORSE. THERE IS NOTHING RACIAL IN THESE NEXT LINES BUT GERMANS TENDED TO DROP THE 'D' AND CALL ME SNOOGRASS OR SNOWGRASS AND MOST BLACK ARE ALWAYS SAYING SNOTGRASS. I'M NOT SURE IF IT INTENTIONAL OR JUST THEIR WAY OF PRONOUNCING IT.

ALTHOUGH IT SEEMS TO BE AN UNCOMMON NAME, I AM ALWAYS ASKED IF I KNOW THIS SNODGRASS OR THAT SNODGRASS.

NO..

I ONLY KNOW MY FAMILY.IN FACT I HAVE NEVER EVEN MET ANOTHER SNODGRASS OUT SIDE MY FAMILY. OF COURSE I HAVE HEARD OF

SNODGRASS MORTUARY

IN WICHITA,KS
AND THERE IS A SNODGRASS MECHANIC IN JOPLIN,MO (YEAH I TOOK A PICTURE OF IT)
AND OF COURSE THERE IS
MELINDA SNODGRASS OF STAR TREK FAME
ANYWAY I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MY 3 MB OF SPACE WHEN I THOUGHT ABOUT DOING THIS FAMILY TREE, AND SO HERE IT IS.
WELL IF I HAVEN'T BORED YOU TO DEATH AND YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED TO SEE IF WE ARE SOMEHOW RELATED JUMP IN AND COMPARE NOTES.

WAIT READ THIS NOTE FROM MY BROTHER BEFORE GOING ON

Hi, My name is Michael Snodgrass. During the past couple years I've mildly conducted a local and slightly larger study of the Snodgrass, Snodgress and other derivative of the name. To this date no known large study has been attempted. Most attempts at root history have been limited to four and five generations. The family of Snodgrass is small and rather insignificant in american history as far as we know. In some studies and stories of heritage, I have noted simple and honest accounts local history and on the other hand I have read some questional accounts of historical importance. My quest is for truth and accuracy.
In early months of the year 2002, shortly after I retire, I plan on starting a one year vacation and travel the 49 continental states and canada. The purpose is two fold. To study history and to gather information on the Snodgrass history. At this time there is no plans to travel to other countries for this purpose. During my travels I want to visit historical sites, visit Snodgrass families, and research throught the many archives available to the public. At this time I plan to use my own funds. However I may seek grants and donations at that time.
In the following two years or sooner I hope to compile and create a nonfictional account of The Snodgrass Heritage.. In the remaining of 1998 and1999 I'd like to hear from members, relatives and friends of Snodgrass famillies. This can be accomplished via Internet SnodsterM1@aol.com Snod@texramp.netor writing to:
