Fingers

As I look down at my hands,
I can see the water.
Each drop falls from fingers
And follows the drops before.

I look at the tips of my fingers
And I can see the fire.
Each flame reaches the ground
And heats the drops of water.

I look at the nails on my fingers
And they seem to drive the forces
I have the power to drive the spikes
And to cause the water to boil.

I look down at my fingers
And I see them stroking someone.
I see that someone has tears
And my finger tries to console them.

I look down at my fingers
And I see the power and the strength.
I see my fingers on my hands
That lead into my heart.

My heart can do many things.
My fingers can send messages to my eyes.
My eyes can send messages to my fingers
And my fingers can touch many things.

As I look down at my hands,
I can see the love for others.
Each drop of love is stronger
Than those drops of love before

Rosebud Rain

Leaning to smell the rosebuds
as its scent touches my nose
the fire jumps from the sky

The mighty crash of thunder
the rains are coming
coming to wash the earth

Warm sprinkles begin to fill the air
soon splashing to puddles
on to flood the creeks

The spine of my back is wet now
seeping with the coming rain
dripping away, chilling me more

The smell of the rosebud
still there, only stained with water
water runs down my cheek

Of the culture and beliefs,
Of the Indian people,
The Sovereign Nations,
Of men, women and children,
Old and young,
Ties to the environment,
All dying in the name of greed.

The eagles soared in the sky
A tribe of Indians called upon the wise spirits
To guide them through the night.

A pack of wolves ran across the foggy land
With Little Bear closely following in
A hundred tales to tell his people
Of his losses and of his wins

It must be nice to talk and walk
With the animals.
What questions would I ask a wolf, lion or bear?
What stories would they in return share?
Oh the tales they could tell.

What would it be like to glide in the air,
As the majestic eagle does?
Wings of magic, eyes portraying wisdom.
How many journeys has it traveled?

And what would we ask an old, tall, standing tree?
What things could it speak?
Maybe of his brothers and sisters
Cut down by greedy man
Or the destroyed and taken land?

We all have a gift inside,
A gift to be one with nature.
Listen very carefully
Hear the plants and animals calling
Let our Mother teach us ways
In which we can survive this world together.
