Why A Page Dedicated To
The Poetry of Mary Oliver?
I think that Mary Oliver is the most amazing poet alive.
This may seem a bit "over the top" for those of you unfamiliar with her work.
But if you've read any of her poetry then you know the powerful magic I'm talking about.
I first came across Mary Oliver in a book of Diane Ackerman's poetry.
I was so blown away with the Oliver poem Ackerman used in the forward.
Wild Geese struck me as one of the most powerful poems I'd come across.
When I found a volume of Oliver's poetry I was happy to hear that she'd won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and the National Book Award. I would strongly recommend any of her books of poetry. Those can be found in the bibliography page in this site.
I have to admit to being amazed that no one had dedicated a page to her poetry. There are sites to a lot of poets out there, many worthy, but I just couldn't understand why no one had dedicated a site to such a powerful voice.
This site is in *no* way associated with Mary Oliver, her publishing company or any other bodies...it is simply a labor of love to acquant others with this seminal poet of our time.
