- Following the third destruction, in 267 A.D.
by the Herulians, a tribe from the north, the Athenians reduced
the size of the city,building the fortification wall that
incorporated, and thus saved, a large part of the Stoa of Attalos,
and abandoning the the destroyed houses on the west side of the
Agora. The third jar in (37), was found under the floor of one of
the towers of the new fortification wall, hence must date not much
later than 267 A.D.
