Now this is a flick I've search long and hard for.
I had it ordered from AMAZON.COM but they just couldn't seem to find one to ship. I've searched many trade lists and pages for a copy but it all was fruitless. Then finally I found a cool trader from VENEZUALA, who made me a copy from the University 's Library copy...
This Obscure little gem was well worth the wait (and the big $$$, shipping to Venezuala)...
UN CHIEN ANDALOU
This film was made in 1929 by director Luis Bunuel in colaboration with Salvador (melting clocks) Dali, and is literally decades before it's time. I can only imagine the controversy this film must have caused when it was first shown.
It's B&W and silent but that only adds to the surealness. In fact this movie is nothing but 16 minutes of surrealist violence sex and even some comedy. From the starting scene where a guy slices a womans eyeball with a straight razor, you just know you are in for some strangeness. Incidently the eyeball used in that scene was a real eye from a cow, some 40 years before even H. G. Lewis.
If strangeness and surrealism is your bag. You will not be disappointed!!!
Since the original writting of this, and thanks to the DVD revolution, it's pretty easy to find a copy of this film. And you have to see this one, maybe you won't understand it, but you HAVE to see it:
