The first MOVIE OF THE WEEK is a little ditty called CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. And not only is it the first MOVIE OF THE WEEK, it is the first video I've ever ordered on-line.
THis flick is on serveral TOP 10 video lists and is surely, in my humble opinion the best of the Cannibal Genre flicks. Its got gore, nudity and even a coherent story-line. I purchased my copy from VIDEO MAYHEM but you can get it almost anywhere.(although the VIDEO MAYHEM print was perfect quality) Definately a must see for Gore or Canibal movie fans.
For those of you who care about such things, the stats go like this:
It was directed by Ruggero Deodato, released in 1979 or there abouts and runs 95 minutes or so.....
The story concerns three film makers who head into the Amazon region to film the natives and such. They are never seen again and so this other guy goes in to find out what happens. He eventually finds their film cans and returns to watch them. The film cans contain footage of the film makers little escapades and hidious fate. It seems they were a bunch of psychotics with very bad public relation skills with the native ("yeah, if I shoot one them, it'll slow them enough so we can follow them to their village"). I mean, not even the turtles are safe from this bunch of nuts. Eventually, the natives get enough and massacre them in a most brutal fashion.
There is lots of naked natives and some real EXTREME brutal gore, some is even real as the aforementioned turtle incident. And these native, man do they know how to treat cheating wives!!! I'm not saying I agree with it, but trust me it works, they never cheat again...
This movie was banned in a few countries, including Italy and England, but this was due to the animal cruelty (which was real)rather than any scenes of human violence (which were all fake). It was faked so good though that it is reported that director Ruggero Deodato had to go to court and prove that it was just make-up and fake blood and guts and had to take the actors with him to the set of an Italian TV show in order to prove that they hadn't been eaten alive.
