CHIMCHIM's EASTER EGG BASKET

Secret DVD codes and goodies!

EASTER EGGS are secret codes often found on DVDs that lead to bonus material not listed or apparently obvious in the menus or on the cover. This page will have any and all EASTER EGGS I have found on my ever growing collection of CULT/HORROR DVDs. If you know of any other EASTER EGGS of any Horror or Cult DVD that I do not have listed here, please EMAIL them to me so I can post them.
If you see a DVD you'd like to add to your collection just click the cover pic to hook up with it.

The Reigning Kings of DVD extras and Easter Eggs too, is TROMA (of course). The whole reason I bought a DVD player was to play my TERROR FIRMER DVD I bought when I met Llyod Kaufman and the Toxic Avenger at the Canadian Premire.

TERROR FIRMER

There are a few Easter Eggs on the first disk. On the Main Menu, type '666' and you will find a screen saying CENSORSHIP SUCKS and you can watch the R-rated version of TERROR FIRMER.
If you go to the Bonus Material section, you can highlight the TERROR FIRMER logo with your remote. If you hit enter, you will see some test color bars for a few seconds and then a little surprise (very little, actually it's nubbin')...
In the Comentary Section select 'view movie with no sound'. Now what kind of Moron would watch a movie with no sound? A Moron that wants to hear Will Keenon sing Amazing grace and get a secret password to a secret TROMA WEBSITE!!!
On the second disk, you can type '666' once again (or select the TERROR FIRMER LOGO with your mouse if you are using a DVD-ROM) and you can see a short bit with Llyod trying to interview Yaniv (the naked dude who ran through Time Square).

PHANTASM

This was another must have DVD. Not just because it was such a cool movie, but because it came so highly recommended by THE VIDEO GRAVEYARD. Besides all the Special Features, there are a couple hidden ones. One allows you to change the theme music on the menu screen. To do this, on the Main Menu screen, hit the up arrow on your remote. A speaker symbol will appear on the screen which you can us to select one of three different theme musics.
Also in the Special Features, you can highlight Still Gallery, then push the up arrow. A black sphere will appear. If you hit enter, a still picture of Don Coscarelli, A. Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury and Angus Scrimm as they look today appears.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

Another classic makes it to DVD. And the Easter Egg here is a pretty cool one. Turn out all the lights, and go to the DVD's Main Menu. Stare at the screen and count to about 200. Watch out for Leatherface!!!!

BLUE VELVET

My favourite David Lynch flick has a not-too-shabby little Easter Egg, considering the surprising lack of extras on this DVD (needless to say I was a little disappointed at this since it is one of the coolest of cool movies). So what you do is go to the main screen and highlight 'Play Movie'. Then press the left arrow key. A new menu option called ' Strange World' will appear. Select it and press enter to see a short collection of scenes and messages from the movie.

BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR

There is a DVD credit screen and some image galleries hidden on the DVD. First go to the 'Special Features' section where you see a picture of Herbert West holding up a syringe. Press left on your remote and highlight the syringe and press enter.
You will see a credit screen for the DVD. From here you can press the left arrow on your remote and you can see a bunch of production pics. Press right will bring up some pics of the movie crew.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

Another classic flick, and although the DVD has a lot of extra cool features, the only Easter Egg found is a DVD credit screen. To see it, press the right arrow on your remote on the Main Screen and highlight the New Line Cinema logo and then press 'enter'.

EVIL DEAD

Maybe the best horror movie ever. This movie has a cool easter egg on the DVD. Watch the 'Bits and Pieces' section in the 'Bonus Materials' all the way to the end. When that is finished start the movie by selecting the 'Begin Terror' menu entry. Before the movie starts, a demonic voice from the movie will yell 'YOU WILL DIE!!!"

ALIENS

OK, so not much for Easter Eggs but this one was one cool DVD. This is what DVD re-releases should be all about. There are more deleted scenes restored (and very cool ones to) than I think I've seen in any other re-release. Whole new elements are added to the storyline. We learn Ripley had a daughter, we see the colonists find the Alien spacecraft (which introduces Newts character a lot earlier in the story), they have these cool auto-defense guns and lots more little scenes!!! But enough of my yacking, you want Easter Eggs so here it is. Go to the extra featuresmenu and scroll down to the main menu button, then scroll down one more and the moniter screen at the bottom will highlight. Click enter and the DVD credits will show up. Big wow! Kinda wimpy for such a cool DVD!

CANNIBAL FEROX

There is a cool little Easter Egg on this one. Go to the 'Grindhouse Releasing' section from the 'main menu'. From there press left on your remote and hight the 'Banned in 31 Countries' circle. Press enter and you can see a 5 minute segment about Cannibal Ferox's Hollywood Premier.

THE DENTIST

Here is another cool DVD with a cool little Easter Egg. From the main menu press the left arrow key to highlight the 'Tri-Mark Logo' (Tri-Mark Logo's are popular Easter Egg sites ya know). Press enter and you will see a trailer for Peter Jackson's coolest (and arguably maybe the goriest flick ever) DEAD ALIVE.

DEAD ALIVE

Here is another of those TRI-MARK LOGO easter eggs. Like with most Tri-Mark Logos you get to it by press left off of the main menu. Once highlighted, press enter. Now having watch THE DENTIST and seeing a trailer for this movie, I half expected to see a trailer for THE DENTIST, but instead there was a trailer for the movie TOMMYKNOCKERS. Now I'll have to rent that one and see what it has the trailer for.

EXCORCISM

Finally, Jess Franco flicks on DVD. Hope KILLER BARBYS comes out soon! Anyway, on the main menu select SPECIAL THANKS. On the screen that appears, hit the left arrow and hightlight Jess Franco's name. Hit enter and you will get to see a 20 minute or so interview called 'Jess Franco and Lina Romay with One-Shot Productions' filmed by Kevin Collins in Chicago on September 29th, 2000.

THE WICKER MAN

I'm to understand this Easter Egg works with both the single disc and the two disc release of this DVD. Insert the disc with the theatrical version of the film if you have the two disc set. From the main menu select 'EXTRAS'. On the next screen highlight 'THE WICKER MAN ENIGMA'. Press up on your remote contral and a highlighted question mark will appear on the screen. Press enter and youwill see a 25 minute Critics Choice interview from the 1997 re-release of the film with Christopher Lee and director Robin Hardy.

MORE TROMA DVD EASTEREGGS

If you have a TROMA DVD with the 'Tour of Troma' in the interactive features, such as with IGOR AND THE LUNATICS, highlight the 'theatrical releasing' window and then push left on your remote. Alternately, if that doesn't seem to work, highlight the 'main menu' and push up on the remote. In either case the Hollywood Sign in the background should be highlighted. Hit 'enter' and you'll get to see a segment describing Troma's (and most indie film makers) relationship with Hollywood. Llyod does a 'meeting' with some Hollywood hotshots and well, you know how Hollywood treats you the movie-goer, well they give Lloyd some of the same.

BASKETCASE

This was one of CHIM's favourite videos from back when he was just a teenage VideoMonkey, and now Frank Henenlotter's classic has come to DVD. The Easter Egg on this one is a hidden trailer for another of Henenlotter's flicks 'Brain Damage'. To get to it simply put in the DVD and wait for the Main Menu. The push the 'left' button on your DVD control.

THE BEYOND

A movie this cool is bound to have some cool Easter Eggs, and sure enough, it does.
The first one is found on the 'Images from the Beyond' menu page. Highlight the 'menu' options on this page then hit the 'left' button to highlight the Eibon symbol. Once this is highlighted hit the 'enter' button and see an awsome trailer for Fulci's flick 'CAT IN THE BRAIN'.
A second Easter Egg is found on the 'Audio Setup' page. Highlight the 'Resume' menu entry at the bottom of the page. Press 'left' on your control to highlight another Eibon symbol. Press 'enter' to see the original opening of the 1981 US version of 'The Beyond,' entitled 'Seven Doors of Death' and with directorial credits to Louis Fuller, one of the pseudonyms Lucio Fulci used in the US.

EVIL DEAD (Book of the Dead Limited Edition)

How may EVIL DEAD DVDs are they gonna release!?!?
Well as long as they keep getting cooler each time, bring 'em on.
So anyway, this one has a couple cool Easter Eggs.
For the first one, go to the 'extras'from the main menu. Press 'left' and highlight a fish (yes a fish, actually the ghost of a fish). Press 'enter' and you will get to see a special make-up effects test.
For the second one, you have to go to the second page of the 'extras'. Again, press left, this time highlighting a skull. Press enter to see a panel discussion by cast and crew members of the movie after a Halloween 2001 screening of the film.

THE STENDAHL SYNDROME

Another awesome TROMA DVD release, so you know it has to have Easter Eggs. Sure enough, besides the TROMA Easter egg mentioned above with IGOR AND THE LUNATICS, this one also has a hidden interview with the legendary Italian Horror Master Dario Argento himself.
To get to it, highlight the 'Feature Presentation' on the disks main menu. Press up on your remote control and you should highlight the razor blade in the background image. Press 'enter' and there you have it!

BLOOD FREAK

Maybe this movie is bad, but the DVD is good! As are most the DVD's from the good people at Something Weird. And also, like most DVDs from Something Weird, this one is chuck full of extras. There are serveral shorts included and a turkey like this movie is bound to lay a few Easter Eggs.
Select the "Fine Feathered Features" option at the main menu. Highlight the "Ghastly Gallery of Ghoulish Cover Art with Music by the Dead Elvi" option and press Right to highlight a hidden turkey. Press Enter to view a clip featuring the movie's narrator.
Highlight the "Fine Feathered Features" option at the main menu and press Up to highlight a hidden turkey. Press Enter to view a commercial for a turkey contest.
