What If We Loved?

Just look at the stars,
On this clear, clear night,
Nothing could ever mar,
This beautiful sight.

For you and I watch together,
Gazing from each other's arms,
As if now were forever,
And we could never come to harm.

I whisper in your ear,
Though we cannot afford gifts,
We have each other, my ever dear,
And we can say "What if?".

What if you were an elegant princess?
Arrayed in jewels and satin,
So fair in the moonlight's caress,
As you stand awaiting your Captain.

Your Captain I would be,
Daring, adventurous, and such,
Come leagues over land and sea,
For the one I love so much.

You in your fairest raiment,
Would greet me with a kiss,
Returning from lands so distant,
To hold she that I have missed.

And what if, oh, what if?
What if we danced?
If we were to lightly trip,
While we were held entranced?

And if we danced upon the air,
Effortlessly spinning and whirling,
I'd look into your eyes so fair,
And feel my heart was stirring.

We'd stop to catch our breath,
And just hold each other in stare,
Thinking such a perfectness,
Could never be reborn anywhere.

We'd take a breath and kiss again,
Savouring that sweetest moment,
It was seem as quick as the wind,
And yet an everlasting sentiment.

What if we were we again?
No princess could take your place,
In my heart, I will be your Captain,
Longing for the sweetest embrace.
