The Lone Gunman editorial board are a group of like-minded conspiracy theorists who speculate on anything from DNA manipulation to UFO involvement in the Gulf War. Mulder and Scully periodically turn to them to provide a different perspective on the cases they are working on. Their encyclopedic knowledge of goings-on in govenmental, intelligence and military circles are an invaluable and sometimes dangerous source of information.
Frohike, compared to his colleagues, looks like the proverbial dirty old man with his short stature, combat boots and his leering attitude towards Scully. He once loaned a pair of night vision goggles to Mulder in exchange for Scully's phone number, but he has a tender side, shown when he brought flowers to the dying Scully. He is the photographic and surveillence expert of the group.
Byers, with his professor-like appearence seems like an unlikely member of the motley bunch of characters. His calm demeanour and no-nonsense attitude belies an encyclopedic knowledge of conspiracy theory. When Mulder asks him for assistance in diagnosing the disease that's killing Scully, he is completely capable of describing it in succinct detail. He is the military and information systems expert of the group.
Langly, with his long blond hair, thick black glasses and a penchant for hard rock music t-shirts, looks as, if not more, unconventional than Frohike. He is totally paranoid, recording every phone conversation and has an aversion to unsecure communications and as a result is the communications expert of the group.

The Lone Gunman team are allied to a mysterious individual that goes by the name of the Thinker. He is a genius computer hacker who assisted in getting information on the genetic manipulation performed on Scully. The Thinker also recently came into possession of top-secret information from the Department of Defense pertaining to governmental conspiracy and extraterestial existance that he passed onto Mulder.
