In Honor of the Confederate Dead
Poor Jeanne who cannot seem to burn completely to
the ground, just keeps coming back for more. She did not
start out to be a soldier. She was a simple shepherd girl.
But she heard the voice of angels and saints speaking to
her and she led the French to victory and crowned the evil
king in his own palace.

Then she said. “My work is done. Let me go back to my sheep.” But the king would not let her be. He gave her to the enemy like a teacake to be burned at the stake.

Jeanne’s soul went straight to God and she said. “My work is done. Let me go back to my sheep.” But God would not let her be. He gave her to the soldiers who fight for their homeland as their patron saint. He gave her to the Confederate Dead who are buried in heaps. Rubbish heaps of men and boys.
