Liberation from what to what? Try the O-word for a change, that is, (ethical) OBLIGATION. We are showered with talk of "women's rights", etc., but what about their (and men's) individual obligations to others. Human "rights" cannot and never have flour shed without the operation of obligations - they go together and mutually co-exist like positive and negative electricity. I just think that a lot of feminist terminology and polemic masks yet hints at the probable reality. Cut to the chase. Are a lot of you people sociopaths, who are self-selected by motivation to wallow in this hatred of so much of humanity? Feminism (not a single movement!) has largely shifted away from its humanitarian/humanistic democratic roots of its original suffragist movements, etc., towards a group-centred blend of chauvinism, self-hagiography and other-rejectionism, where only gende is truth. It's becoming the western world's accepted substitute for instinctual group hatred in societies where traditional exercises of hatred (ethnicity and religion) have been heavily proscribed since Hitler's war. Where is it taking us? Just look t human history - today's western feminism isn't new. No, it's something very old. Societies are just going around in circles. WWII's hard lessons are being forgotten! Just watch out! Huge pity about "F"! I want to see the forest and the trees. Too many of you people cannot see the people for the genitalia. P.S. I have just completed an honours dgree in media at the university of Ulster at Coleraine in Northern Ireland.I found my niche in studying representation and gender. With the encouragement of very thorough and dedicated teachers I soon began to question th role of women (and men) in contemporary western society. I focused, to a large extent, on female appearance and the oppressive nature of advertising. Although I am a Scottish lassie, your comments on this page are poignant and there are indeed many issue concerning female liberation that are to a large part unaddressed. Whilst in my first year, a good friend of mine fell pregnat. At only age 18 and just commencing her education this was obviously disastrous. After much moralising she decided to have an a ortion but she recieved many discriminating comments from her family and friends who judged her decision as sinful. She was forced to venture to England to have the abortion. Furthermore, another friend fell pregnat at 16 years old and was left rejected f om her religion when she decided to keep the child. I never cesae to be amazed at the treatment women must endure from a supposedly equal society. I could list hundreds of examples where women are treated so terribley and unfairly: from my absent father a d struggling mother, to the self hatred that a vast amount of women have for their bodies today to the patriarchal establishments of academia and religion...it saddens me. Feminism is certainly not a thing of the past but unfortunately, new generations be ieve they cannot relate to 'bra burning lesbians with hairy armpits' - a stereotype that only a male dominated mediaforce could have created...

My teacher is a male and very enthusiastic about feminism. He does not take sides w/the general m le population and he's very open-minded to the female's point of view (thank the lord). Hello. I suppose revolution is okay provided it replaces the old order with something better. I don't have a full reality on how anarchy would work as a practical political system - it seems to me that however things are run you need effective administrat on and communications to function, whether in small groups or large. I do think that freedom has to be constantly upheld and fought for. There are a lot of vested interest groups on this planet that would like to pull the wool over our eyes and introduce various laws covertly whilst everyone has their attention fixed on wi ning the lottery or marrying Brad Pitt. I suppose women have it bad in that they are constantly targeted by the fashion/cosmetics industry in what amounts to a global mind control operation.Women's Liberation is fine but if we look at the wider scene I th nk we are all in need of some liberation, whatever sex, colour or social position. Perhaps the rich and powerful are the least free of all; they've acquired the wealth and status and still aren't free - where do they go from there? I wasnt going to respond until I read what others had written. Some comments, I noticed, were filled with hatred. To those I want to say, I am a feminist, I am married with a child. I am a Nurse, educated with two undergraduate degrees and a Masters. I am also a devout Catholic. And, while I dont always agree (ie Abortion) I do not judge (didnt Jesus say something on this issue?) I believe that women are equal to men. I believe that hatred and cruelty breed violence and death. I work in an ER where I see gun shot wounds to children and young adults everyday. Are you fucked up in the head or what? I'm Pro-Life and, yes, it's sad that things(like being raped) happen and it's not fair. Your site is excellent. I'm not sure I would show so much support for prostitution, however. Woman continue to struggle everyday to be taken seriously for whats above their shoulders and not below them. Although, one major impedence to the goals of femini m remains our own biased critism of one another. If we are, as a gender, going to make strides toward equality, it is defeatest to point fingers, preaching to the already converted. Prostitution, much like the film industry, breaks down any hope of wome seperating themselves from constantly being measured and valued sexually or for our appearance - whether or not we succumb to the beauty myth. Perhaps you see this differently? Maybe you feel that a woman taking control of her sexual self and doing what he sees fit with it is a form of empowerment? To a certain extent, I'd have to agree, but most woman who choose this path are not doing so for the sex, but out of desperation. Maybe Im being too judgemental? I hope not. I dont want to appear bitter agains my gender. I'm NOT one of those people who called Monica a whore and Clinton, well, boys will be boys. I also wouldnt want to impose my morals on anyone else. That's not my job. However, I still cant help but feel somewhat sorry for women who sell their bodies for profit. What's your opinion on this? You can email me or not. Thanks for the information... I'm a Californian woman and have considered myself an anarchist since age 13, but have never joined a specific movement. I'm put off by the sexism and general divisiveness I've encountered from most anarchist publications an groups, yet frustrated by the "mainstreaming" of the feminist and gay rights movements. Nice to know you're out there getting the word out. If you don't mind, I will use some of the information on your site for the next Women's Guerilla History Project outing in San Francisco. We each find a woman/women whom we admire, research her, and make up a poster popularizing her accomplishments. We hen exchange posters and plaster the city with them overnight. I stumbled on to this page while doing research for and English paper about the link between women and nature and whether this link is benificial or detrimental. This topic interests me greatly. I am a lesbian too which causes me to look at the issues of feminism and patriarc y in a different way. I see feminism as being about going back to the old ways of listening to our intuition and trusting ourselves to know how to heal ourselves as well as bringing to awareness issues of women's ideas being dissed in favor of men's ide s. Dear Anarchist Feminists~ I would like to thank you for making my paper on feminists destruction of American Society so very easy. I am not a woman hater, nor am I sort of gent who thinks a woman needs to be a servant in my household. I do find it comical though, that fraternal rotherhoods like the elks and the moose have been frowned upon because of the secrecy involved that women can't be part of, when feminism as a whole resembles one of the groups. You've got your secrecy, your unity and a common ground you all stand on, bu due to some unhappiness with the world you allow yourself to hate men instead of looking to see if there are good men in the world. But hey...that's all right. For every feminist in the world, there's a hundred women that will take the money and the wi e and dine chivalry any day of the week. I agree with many of the information you present, but it would be helpful if you mentioned the international struggles of the female sex. Reproductive rights, or lack thereof, in Chinese women. The forced issolation and repression of Middle Eastern wome . The low status of women in India, Russia, or even areas of Europe. This would add even more substance, support, and interest in your website.

I suppose I was attracted to this page because of the Gender Aparthied in Afghanistan right now. I guess being a loved and respected southern woman I do not think of these issues as I should. Where there is one imprisoned woman we are all imprisoned. T ings are better for women in the United States than ever before and they are worse. It is according to the way we look at that statement. We are allowed freedom to vote ,to choose our husbands, retain property and to support ourselves, to bear arms or n t, to defend our honor with a justice system that sometimes works, and we finally have a choice about whether or not we want to have children. I would say we have came a long way baby. I would also say that we haven't come far enough. We still are the rimary caregivers while sometimes holding full time jobs, we still aren't paid what men are, and we aren't taken very seriously in the political or religious arenas. Furthermore we are still sex kittens (I have trouble trying to figure out what advertis rs are selling-naked women seem to sell alot of it, whatever it is.) Yet, I still think that we are the unsung heroes, and thats okay by me because the sung heroes got a little too full of themsleves and they tried to dominate us in every way. Who knows if we would do the same thing in their sshoes. I hope not, but who k ows. Right now, I am thankful for choices, men who were raised by strong feminist women, and Xena and Buffy who in no way reflect the Charlie's Angels of the past if you know what I mean. As you know I have a notice of claims(inadmissible as evidence under Fed. R. Evid. 408 as an offer to compromise) filed with SLC Corp. for the Mayor and City Council of Salt Lake City Corporation, 451 South State Street, Suite 415, Salt Lake City 84111. 1. Brief Statement of FactsPursuant to Utah Code Ann. 63-30-11(3)(a)(i), Ms. White, by and through counsel, states the facts giving rise to her claim, based on currently available information and belief as follows:* On April 19, 1999, Ms. White was subjected to the use of excessive force by an Officer of the SLCPD. On that day, Ms. White, was sitting in [Liberty] Park next to the World War I commemorative statue and, ironically, reading the US Constitution [and case summaries]. While reading, Ms. White saw police officers sweeping through the Park and requiring others to leave. Ms. White then approached a female Officer of SLCPD. The Officer spoke to Ms. White and told her to leave the Park. Ms. White asked "why?" and the Officer responded, "because." In an effort to comply with the Ofiicer's request, Ms. White then went to pick up her [library] book, which she had left sitting next to the statue. When she stooped down to pick up the book, Ms. White was shoved [5 times] by a male Officer from the SLCPD, the book was ripped from her hands by the Officer, she was hit in her leg twice by the Officer with his baton. As she was being hit, Ms. White said, "what are you doing hitting me, I'm a woman? Don't hit me!" After Ms. White was beaten by the Officer, she asked if she was under arrest and recieved no response. Ms. White was not charged with a crime and posed a threat to no one. There was no offer of Medical assistance. Ms. White left the Park and eventually collapsed in the parking lot outside the Church of Christ on 13th South and 7 East. She was unable to walk. The aforementioned has been filed in violation of 42 U.S.C. 1983 against 1)Chief Ruben Ortega and @)Salt Lake City. This is in effort to get the City to settle ou of court. During my research on civil rights I found a book entitled: Getting Uncle Sam to Enforce Your Civil Rights, United States Commission on Civil Rights, Clearinghouse Publication 59. Which states under Law Enforcement... Federal criminal civil rights prohibits law enforcement agents from conspiring to interfere with federally protected rights under color of law, or using or conspiring to use force, or threat of force, to interfere with the free exercise of your civil rights. - thankyou for your effort. I enjoyed the writing. I would like to hear more about ordinary contemporary anarchists - Women especially - and what they are doing now. I wonder if it would be a good idea to have an article every so often that is personal. I do feel quite weird about always reading about the same women.I do realise that these were 'great' people and yet I feel that relatively important issues are constantly being addressed by us lesser people. Also although I find this hard to express I fe l that Anarchism is a state of being - I might call mmyself an anarchist and yet not be able to live in that state of anarchy all of the time becasue of preconditioning.( I have also found in my experience that what people call themselves is often the las thing that they are which must include myself) Similarly I think that other people are in their lives touched at odd times anyone falls into at odd times in their lives even though they would equate anarchy with some dreadful state of being. I think th t my ability to be free depends upon de-conditioning myself of redundant values and rules. So I am interested in the psychological aspects of unfreedom.Thank you. Oh by the way I went to the stop the City in London and loved the energy of the guys takin apart the Macdonalds. It was the least violent thing I have ever witnessed. Fundamentally, everything ought to be about equality. That is to say, in the context of respecting individuality and cultural difference, access to personal expression and a realization of one's own desires must be maximized. Therefore, at its core, I b lieve feminism, equality, etc. must realize that power is defined by dollars and anyone without money is at a similar place in the struggle for self-determination. (I know that in comparison to myself there are many females doing far better. Consistently the reason behind this fact has been the existence of a differential access to resources tilted in their favour.) Only once this realization has taken place, can men and women define their goals as similar. I hope that the competition between genders w ll someday end with this realization. History has consistently demonstrated that between two seemingly disparate groups, commonality on a particular issue will usually begin to bring them together. We are all human, after all.

When considering moving to Ireland (which I am), I have had to ask myself the very simple question of whether I will be swapping American snakes for Irish lizards. In pursuit of some clues, I took inventory of my most profound and essential beliefs. Would a life in Irish society present even more intense sexism than is still existant in the southern United States where I have spent most of my life; what feminist mo ement is alive there and would I have enough access and liberty to make my personal journey political, as well? Would Catholisism, religion in general and a seeming lack of separation between church and state take me back into the closet, leaving me alone in my struggles, free of the world's most intense capitalist dogma only to plunge into reproductive slavery as ictated by the state? I was very happy, relieved to find your site. Not only as an indication that Ireland may possibly, at least in part, share my views, but for all the women and children of your beautiful country. We reasoned for directer democracy. The group lacks females and anarcho f menists in particular. There are in Reykjavík an activ group of very young females, (radicals who practice), who call them self Briets. (Briet was the Icelandic, travelled, lady who was among the first to initiate a female suffrage in Iceland after readin , On the Subjegation of Women. The Universal Suffrage for adults came in Iceland without the sheth of blood. During the first Parliment before, institutionalization of christianity in Iceland, woman could and did orate as lawers and judges. Therefor it c n be reasoned that the acknowlidgement for "fe"male involvement was seen as the norm in Icelnadic historical roots, the viking anarchical thought.
