An aristocrat, also considered for the post of the head of the Royal Guards, beaten by Oscar in a private duel. Already at this first duel he compliments Oscar's beauty. He then becomes her second-in-command and is always loyal to Oscar even asking her not to leave the Royal Guards. Oscar considers him as a friend and as a good soldier, while he would like her to see more in him. Being brought up in the old fashioned way, he first asks Oscar's father for permission to court his daughter, which she does not approve of. When he proposes to her she turns him down. Still his affection is so great, that he even disobeys orders, because he does not wish to fight her.
All in all, he is a caring and honorable man, who has had the misfortune of falling in love with the wrong woman.
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE ANIME AND THE MANGA CHARACTER OF GIRODEL
- Girodel appears much later in the manga than he does in the anime: there is no duel with Oscar in the manga.
- It is not he who tells Oscar that André is accused of causing Marie's riding-accident (manga).
- He tries to kiss Oscar in the manga - after the ball where Oscar should appear in a dress and get engaged. She pushes him ayway before he manages to really kiss her though.
- At the end of the manga he also talks privately to Oscar a couple of times - they even talk about André.
