Her name's Arisugawa Juri, and she has a reputation for being the coldest student in the Academy. Even the hardest of hearts has a soft belly, however. Just how did she get to be the way she is? And is there hope yet for her? |
With cool cerulean eyes and an exterior that would give the antarctic a run for its' money, Juri carries a rather strict and stern reputation that even the teachers fear. In addition to heading the Fencing Team, she is also the Treasurer in the Student Council. Even there her word carries a lot of weight, as not even the President will cross her. The only other person she seems to honestly care about at first is Miki. However, it's not necessarily true. There is one person that Juri is chained to, and has been since her middle school days. A girl named Takatsuki Shiori. |

Once upon a time, Juri had a friend, or a girl she'd thought to be a friend. She was quiet, admired Juri, like many of the other students in the Academy. However, this girl possessed a jealousy that would drive her to hurt Juri in the worst way. She knew of a boy who liked her, and thinking that Juri liked him back, she took him away, breaking Juri's heart. It wasn't because of the boy that broke her heart, thought. It was because Shiori left. |
Juri, out of pity more than likely, developed feelings for the girl. She was so unlike Juri afterall, and don't opposites attract? Shiori didn't seem to understand that Juri really was in love with her and not the other fencer boy. The only picture that Juri had of her was the class picture, and even then, Shiori's face is turned away, taunting. That picture is kept in a locket, near Juri's heart. |
Leaving also embittered Juri; and a betrayal is a betrayal. The hurt never completely went away, no matter how hard her heart got as time had passed. Shiori had a saying: "Believe in miracles, and they will hear you". Juri duels Utena, with the intent to prove that no miracle would come and save her this time. However....the miracle came, just as Dios always does, and Juri turned away, defeated. |

Juri fades to the background for a while, until the Black Rose Saga, where Shiori makes her apperance. Juri still pines over Shiori, trying to tear herself from the chain that bindes her. However, that is not something she can do by herself, and even throwing away the locket, it returns to her when Shiori comes for Juri's soul Sword. And even with Juri's sword and fencing abilities, Shiori is unable to overcome Utena. Juri's problem is no less gone, even with the Black Rose duelists out of the way. She continues with the Student Council, even with Nanami acting as president. Juri seems to tolerate Nanami, if not a little amused by the younger Kiryuu. |

Aside from Touga and Shiori, there is another who knows about Juri's problem, his name is Tsuchiya Ruka. And opposed to the others, he actually seems to care about her, and wants the problem resolved, even if he has to resort to extreme measures to make it come about. Not even he can break the chain alone, but with Utena's help, he lives to see Juri freed. Now able to freely admit her feelings, Juri seems to be able to move on. Would she remember Utena when the girl prince left? As assuredly as there would be a new locket around Juri's neck with her bright and smiling face in it. |
