Our workshop is strictly for the restoration of old classic cars and bikes from the mid fifties to the mid seventies. We currently have eleven DKW 1000s built around the late fifties, early sixties which we are busy restoring to "new" showroom condition.

Once in the workshop, the vehicle is stripped down to the chassis, which is then sand blasted repaired if necessary and treated with a protective coating. The rebuilding now starts with all parts being checked and replaced if not up to the required standard. This includes the suspension, braking system and gearbox at this stage. Once overhauled these are refitted to the chassis.

The engine and cooling system are checked, rebuilt and run on a test bench under controlled conditions prior to being added to what is now starting to resemble a vehicle. The body work is the next task to be tackled. All repairs necessary including the spray painting is done professionally and to a high standard. Once completed the body is put back on the chassis and the interior is totally re-upholstered and carpeted.

These two vehicles had restoration work completed in our workshop. The Wartburg (an East German vehicle) was brought into our workshop for minor body work and a complete interior revamp. Seats and door panels were recovered, with the hood lining and carpets being replaced all to the customers specifications. The DKW 1000s belongs to Howick DKW and is currently still undergoing restoration, due to the fact that it is in daily use as our advetising and courtesy vehicle.
