"Fall Color" Motorcar Rides in Green County, Wisconsin
Every fall, the Wisconsin Heritage Rail Corporation sponsors its annual "Fall Color" Motorcar Rides. All day Saturday, rides were available in Monticello , Wisconsin. Approximately 18 Motorcar operators were on hand to take people either north through the Stewart Tunnel, or south towards the City of Monroe and back.
On Sunday, the group converged on the City of Belleville, Wisconsin. Motorcar rides were available either south through the tunnel, or you could go north through the Town of Basco and back. The Basco ride was a new addition this year. Members of the Corporation have been busy brushing and clearing the rail line going north.
This rail corridor, the ex- Illinois Central runs from Madison to Freeport. This is one of the most scenic corridors in the state.

The Corporation also sponsors Motorcar rides in the spring as part of the "Green County Depot Days Celebration" in Green County.

This rail line is in danger of being ripped up and made into a bike trail. Click on the Madison - Freeport DNR Trail Study. Most people in Green County do not want this to happen. They want to keep the rail line in place for use as a tourist attraction and Motorcar rides.
