Vintage Buses

There is a large variety of preserved and restored vintage buses in Victoria.  The painstaking but worthwhile pastime is undertaken by both major bus companies and individual private bus enthusiasts alike.
Pictured bus 592 was acquired from the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board by an enthusiast.
This bus is a short version AEC Regal Mk III with Martin & King bodywork, the longer version was fitted with an extra door at the rear.
These buses were specially purchased for service at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games transporting athletes from the Olympic village in Heidelburg to the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

This 1959 SB Bedford is a typical example of the type of bodystyle and chassis combination that operated around Melbourne on route bus services as well as school buses in  country Victoria.  The bodywork was constructed by C.A.C (Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation) in Fishermans Bend Victoria and approximately 370 units were built with curved wrap around windscreens. Pictured right is Driver Bus Lines No.5 is a wrap around windscreen version and is one of many vintage buses carefully restored by this company. The other vintage vehicles are shown in the Driver Bus Section of this web site along with many of todays operating vehicles.

Pictured left is Volgren body VG001, the first Volgren route bus body.  This bus is a Volvo B58 and was built in November 1979.  This bus body is constructed using the Hess design and is made out of aluminum.  Having been retired from regular route service, this bus has been placed in to the Grenda Group Heritage fleet with many other examples which can be seen in the Grenda Group Section of this web site.
