Scott's Skiing Area
Alright this is my ski page. I Live in Calgary Alberta Canada
and ski at Sunshine Village. This
is my favorite place to ski that is close to home. Another awesome place
to ski is .
I just bought some Atomic ATC 5 and now have Marker M51 bindings on them. Just a hint from on day that I was skiing. use a magnetic ski rack because they suck and go flying off of the car. My friend and I found this out but luckly there was no one behind us. It looked like a scene out of Twister.
Well tommorow the 30th is the Warren Miller film, Snow Riders II. I have 10, 6th row tickets. Why do I have 10? Because I got a group discount rate and last years movie. I'll tell you how it was compared with the past five years. Every year I have front row except for this year because the group discount doesn't have front row.
We this year it was excellent as always. They had some cool Cat skiing as well as the new Snow Blades and other means of getting down the hill. I would have to recomend seeing it because "If you don't see it this year you will be one year older when you do. Thank you and good night"
Sunshine Village opens on Nov. 7 Nov. 14
Nov. 21(due to lack of snow) which is a Friday so I am going to have to
miss school. And then I will go skiing on Sunday and Tuesday
also. Last year I only skiied 14 times at Sunshine and 4 times at BlackComb.
Mind you we stayed on the hill at BlackComb and the 4 days were in a row
so it wasn't that bad.
I will be posting every time that I go skiing and I will tell about
each day. This will start Nov. 7th Nov.
14 Nov. 21st
Finally, Nov. 23 Sunshine opened!!! I got first row in the parking lot. Picked up my pass and went up the gondola. The skiing was great and there was lots of powder to ski in. The only thing that sucked was my rock skis are heavy stiff and long so they were hard to ski in the powder with, especially on the first day. There was a 50cm base and some sun shone through for a coupple of hours.
Once again we had first row in the parking lot. This time it was on Nov. 30. There was lots of powder in the morning which was skiied off after lunch but you could still find more in the trees. I am not as sore as the first time even though I ejected from one ski going off of a jump. I have to work on my ballance in the air because I twist too much when doing tweeks and back scratchers. The base was 75cm with about 30cm of powder on top. It was partly sunny there today and the wind came and went but it was a good day skiing.
O.K. I went skiing again. The date was Dec. 6. First row again and the snow was kind of crappy but it was sunny the whole day! In the after noon the snow got a bit softer and was better. I can't wait to take out my new skiis. I just have them sitting in my room and they make me drool and wimper cause I have not used them yet. Next Sunday, the 14th is demo days. This is where you can try out any skiis that you want for free. This has to be one of the best deals that they have.
Skiing again on Dec. 14. There was no new snow which resulted in lots of rocks and hard packed snow. The light was flat so the day was kind of crappy but better than nothing. Hopefully next week will be better.
Dec. 21, amazing, they got around 40cm of new snow which really helped. The sun was shinning untill around 1pm but you could still see. I had a 1/2 hour nap at lunch which helped me keep going all day. Was supposed to go skiing on the Dec. 19th but my friend couldn't get his car so I went to school instead. Going up again on Tues. so I'll give another update that night or the next day.
Dec. 23, I said that the 21st was amazing so this must be super amazing. It was like the 21st but there was about 3cm of snow and a little bit of fog. It was really cool because the sun would reflect on the fog and it looked so cool. It was also warmer today and the snow was softer. It wasn't 100% sunny but the fog made it good. It was also nice because the guys that I was skiing with could keep up pretty good so we could keep together and go down anything. I pulled off an awesome backscratcher on the last run and the landing was perfect. Mabey boxing day I'll take my new skiis up cause today I landed on a rock and well it's deeper than my base but that is O.K. cause they only cost me $15 cnd.
Alright, today, Dec. 28th I went skiing again. I have a confession to make, we went up in a Nissan minivan. What a P.O.S.! Anyways the skiing was great. There was sun in the morning and after lunch it started to snow but the light was still good. I pulled off so many backscratchers it was awesome. I also did this cool tweek and rotated 90o. My friend finally got some air, I couldn't believe it. There were about 3cm of fresh snow and there should be lots tommorow if it keeps snowing. I'll go up on Tues. Oh yea the gondola broke down around 11:30am so that kept all of the late commers off the hill but we had to take the ski out down. REALLY crappy, I am glad that they "were" rock skiis and that I won't be fixing them soon.
Monday December 29th. Holy Moly Sunshine got 25cm last night and I'm not there, I slept till 1pm. Don't worry it is cloudy and I a going tommorow.
My new skiis rock. They are soooooo nice compared to my Dynastars. Best $99 skiis that I ever owned. The snow was soft today, Dec. 30th but there were lots of people there and it got foggy in the after noon. Still a good day skiing.
Well Sunshie got 32cm of snow last night and today, Jan. 2nd we tried to go but the roads were too bad. We were going 30 km/h in spots. So to be on the safe side we turned around and went in to Cochrane and visited my cousins.
This time, Jan. 4th the roads were better. They were a little crappy in Banff though. The powder was amazing! Everywhere we went there was more snow and powder if you wanted. With the extra snow comes extra bails which was true for me today but it was great landing in the powder.
Jan. 11th, today was coooold. It reached -20oC which is cold, but it was sunny all day. Hot packs and I was fine most of the day, I had to take an early lunch to warm up though. I don't think that I will make it up next weeked because I have to study for diplomas.
Tuesday Jan. 27th. Well of all times up skiing this year, today had to be the best by far. It was sunny, warm and lots of snow. In the morning we were skiing up on Divide and in the after noon we were doing jumps on Standish. I hope to be going up tommorow but my ride hurt his knee today so I don't know. We were taking pics of the jumps so when I get them I'll scan them and put them up.
Sunday Febuary 1st. Once again it was sunny! Sunny, sunny, sunny! There was sooooooo much sun and it was really warm. My friend didn't go because I didn't call her at work, considering that I don't her work number, wait she is giving it to me now. Too bad for her she missed out on a great sunny day. Then my other friend who hurt his knee didin't go either but his knee was hurting so that is ok. Anyway I'll be up there again on Sunday.
Sunday Febuary 8th. Good day didn't update this so I don't remember what it was like, but I know that it wasn't bad.
Friday the 13th. Skiied with some friends from school. It was kinda hard skiing the bumps with 205 skiis. Today I wished that I didn't bend my old Salomons, they were 193's and were way better for the bumps. It was kinda cloudy but the light wasn't flat, found some nice powder in the trees off of Tee-Pee Town.
What a great day today was, Monday Feb. 17th. It was sunny all day until around 3:30pm so I had 30 min of non sun. I guess that I can't complain about that too much. Best thing was that I didn't have to drive so I could have slept on the way home but I didn't. The snow was hard in the morning but fast, and in the afternoon it softened up and was better. Too bad that I didn't wax for the warmer temp or I would have gone faster.
