Malcolm Lawler 1948 Ford 4 door Sedan

1948 Ford Sedan

At Xmas dinner in 1974 Dave Waltham suggested we should travel to Cobar in western NSW to collect a 37 Ford coupe.
We left boxing day and when we got there the coupe was gone . On the way home we spotted the 48 sedan beside a farmers barn in Grenfell. Not wanting to go home empty handed we made the farmer an offer he could not refuse. $60.00 and he keeps the donk for himself. We pulled the donk loaded it up and arrived home New Years Eve 1974. The idea was that Dave and I would build the sedan and go to the Nationals in 3 months time.. We purchased a Cusso for it's engine (Wilbur, ended up chopping the Cusso). Big Al painted it, Cooper gave us some wheels and we spent every night and day working on it. On the 23rd March 1975 we came home from my brothers twenty first birthday party at 2a.m. and we laid the flames on it. Everybody was out in the garage. I was trying to impress this young chick but she didn't hang round no loss!. Dave bought Coopers tough 55Chev big block and all. Our first rod run together was Wilburs and Sally's wedding. The Nationals was the next day. After the Nats I install a 327/powerglide and 4.11 out of a mainline. It was fast but would not go around corners. The next year I stripped all the running gear and sold the car to Paul Harriet .We had started the Ugly's and the 48 was a member.
