This is the actual LONDON BRIDGE, designed by John Rennie in the early 1800's and built across the Thames River soon after. When it was found to be sinking,Millionaire industrialust Robert P. Mc Culloch Sr. ( Mc Culloch chain saws, outboard motors,go-cart engines superchargers,etc.) purchased it to be reconstructed as the centerpiece of the community he had developed in the desert next to Lake Havasu on the Colorado River.It was constructed on dry land at the neck of a peninsula using modern techniques and materials,using only the exterior portion of the original cut granite (It's hollow) Once finished, a channel was dug across the peninsula and under the bridge, creating an island! Besides water, there is an English style theme village under the bridge and under the last arch is a stage that has hosted quite a few rock performances since the early 80's!
It has always been my personal FANTASY to see my favorite rock band of all time perform here (though less likely than me winning the lottery!!)
UPDATE 10/5/97...The legendary '60's rock band "Iron Butterfly" performed a full set under the bridge, including their multi-platinum hit, "In-a-gadda-da-vida" !!
It was o.k., but still not my fantasy concert!
The list of artists that have played with members of Heep is a virtual who's-who of rock, and is too immense to show here! The Heep is a band who is almost universally cited as a major influence by today's rock stars! Their best tunes (I think!) can best be described as Pink Floyd with brains or kind of Styx, but darker, or... well buy one of their records and see if you can define it!! (It's better than just about anything you could try to compare it to!!!)
