"Killing In The Name Of" by Rage Against the Machine

Here Iīll put up more pictures, and tell you more about my buggy,as
I am making progress in building it.

The car is based on a 1968 VW 1300 floorpan which is shortened by 40 cm.
Itīs definitly NOT going to be a 1300 when itīs finished,as I plan to build a
2.5 liter T-4 engine to put in it.
Iīll get back to this when I start working on the engine.

This is what it looked like when I picked it up.It was the floorpan,a bent
front end and a window with a broken window.(pictures above)

Early stages of the first rebuild (before I tore it apart again!)Above

After working like crazy for about two weeks earlier this summer(we were
trying to get it ready for a VW meeting,it looked like this.Yes,the Suzuki
van is mine too!Stock 1600 motor, 5,5"x15" ATS wheels up front,and 7"X15"
ATS rear wheels, black paint (with lots of dust, insects and runnings!) and a
bent steering column. I drove it like this for about a week. Then the shifting
rod broke, and I decided to pull it apart, and make something far more extreme
out of it!As it happened,I got an old, rotted 1303 S from a guy that owed
me some money. The body was almost rusted away, but it was fitted with
Porsche 911 brakes,driveshafts,Porsche/Fuchs alloys etc.(unfortunatly not
the engine/tranny),so I figured Iīd use these parts to build myself a low,bad
and blown(if I can afford the Turbo goodies!)Beach Buggy!I also got a 2.0 liter
T-4 engine with IRS transaxle, and I was on my way.

The buggy body stashed away in a corner, waiting for me to finish the pan.

This is pretty much the way things are at the moment.I am stripping the body of Tectyl,
and, man,is this a dirty job! When Iīm done I īm going to weld lugs at the rear of the pan,
converting it to IRS.After all the welding and stuff is completed, the pan together with
steering/suspension parts and other little thingys will be powder-coated.For obvious
reasons this is going to be a summercar(h**l,I live in Norway,brrrr...!),so I think powder-
coating will do just fine.Besides,Tectyl is not a pretty sight. Now,this car ainīt going to be
a "show only" car,but I want it to look as good as I can,so off it goes!

The underside of the pan.Still working on the Tectyl....Iīm not kidding when I say that this stuff
is put on in a 1/" cm thick layer, and underneath is a couple of layers of paint! And itīs bl***y HOT
work out in the sun.Canīt do it inside (too dirty). If you look closely, you should be able to see the
square tubing welded round the edges of the pan.Same on the upside,so I donīt think rigidity (wonder
if thatīs the right word?) is going to be a problem.

I plan to do all(or anyway;most) of the work on the car myself,so when Iīm finished I can say "I DID
THIS"!Must be a great feeling cruising along, knowing that this is truly MY car!Until something breaks,
and there is no-one to blame but myself.....

Plenty more to come(soon,I hope)
