Jim is in his fourth season of racing, and is now getting competative. In the earlier seasons, his disadvantage was money and older, slower bikes, but was still managing to mix it with the best of the midfielders. In his first season (on a 1984 Yamaha TZ250, fitted with a sidecar engine!!!) he managed to shame many a brand new RGV250, and stay on the tail of a couple of Honda's RS250's, surely testament to his riding skill. Things looked up, when in his third season he raised the cash for a TZ250 Reverse Cylinder, and he started to pick up places, and regularly featured in the top five.
