Welcome To Agadir! The City of Agadir

This is my presentation of the City of Agadir. I don't even pretend to have a complete description of the town. So just consider this being a short introduction.

Agadir on the West Coast of Africa is probably most known for the 30 km long beach. That's the reason most of us Europeans go there.

You can choose if you want to rent a chair in one of the many beachclubs, or if you want to pick a spot for yourself.
The advantage of renting a chair is that no sales men are allowed to come into the beach club areas. If you stay there, you don't have to discuss the prize of rocks, carpets, food of different kinds, beverages, clothes - you name it. The beach is guarded by uniformed police, but they can't be everywhere all the time. You will be surprised how many times you'll be offered to buy hashish. Don't fall for that - not only is it stupid to use drugs; the guy who tries to sell it to you might be a police officer working under cover.

Agadir is quite a modern city. It was completely destroyed in an earth quake some 30 years ago. Only three houses remained and still stands.

Because of that there is no Old Town in Agadir. The City is built in a modern (European influenced) style with big avenues, parks and lots of hotels, restaurants and shops. In the city there's quite a lot of traffic.

There's a mix of old traditions and modern style and living that is fascinating.

There is always a possability for you to live through your entire vacation in Morocco/Agadir at the hotel, not leaving is for a minute.
You sleep in your room, eat (western) food in the restaurant, stay by the pool, go to the bar, and buy the postcards and souvenirs at the reception desk.

If it wasn't for the signs in arab, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from any other hotel in any other sunny country...
Of course you can sit on the balcony of your hotel room and watch the sun set. It's nice, it's comfortable but it's boring! There is so much happening in Agadir both day and night!
And I want to see and experience that!

The night life is intense and vivid. The air is full of new exciting smells, arab music and songs mixed with western disco hits.

People stroll around looking at all the merchendise, shopping, eating either at one of the many restaurants at the beach walk, or buying snacks like candy or peanuts roasted while you wait.
They walk around hand in hand, talking, laughing - and flirting...
It's quite easy to get in touch with people in Agadir, even though it's forbidden for Maroccan men to talk to or be together with male tourists. You have to be careful; not because you will have any bigger problems, but your friend will. Anyway, there are always possabilities to avoid this problem.

People are quite curious about the life we tourists live and the countries we come from. They also sometimes think they can make money just by showing us around.
But making real friends in Maroc, is not the easiest thing - gay people are not looked upon with respect. And respect is something very much more important in arab countries than in the European.

Because of that I'm very proud that I do have som good friends, who takes care of me, as real friends who respect each others.
