TOBACCO FREE POLICY

Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli recognizes that there is ample research demonstrating the health hazards of the use of tobacco products, including smoking, using smokeless tobacco, and breathing of second hand smoke. Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli understand its responsibility to the students to demonstrate and teach acceptable health principles. Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli , therefore in the best interests of the health and safety of the students, and the general public, directs the development of rules and regulations to ban completely the use of tobacco products by any persons during classes, practices, concerts or any other academic sponsored activities.

Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli further acknowledges that under no circumstances will funds from the tobacco industry be accepted. This includes moneys for sponsorship, advertising, or promotions including the purchase of equipment, and/or facilities.

Acknowledging that tobacco look-alike products encourage children to emulate tobacco use behavior. Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli will not allow the sale to tobacco look-alike products in its facilities.

This policy shall be established to:

1. Protect the health and safety of students.


2. Reflect and emphasize the hazards of tobacco use.


3. Promote health and encourage students to adopt healthy lifestyles.


4. Further the goal of consistency among on-going school and community programs to discourage children for using tobacco products.


5. Eliminate the mixed messages that children receive through tobacco advertising and its association with music and concerts.
