AWARE TEENS IN ACTION

TOBACCO FREE POLICY

Aware Teens in Action (ATIA) recognizes that there is ample research demonstrating the health hazards of the use of tobacco products, including smoking, using smokeless tobacco, and breathing of second hand smoke. ATIA understand its responsibility to the teens to demonstrate and share acceptable health principles. ATIA, therefore in the best interests of the health and safety of the students, teens and the general public, directs the development of rules and regulations to ban completely the use of tobacco products by any persons during our activities such as classes, practices, concerts or any other ATIA sponsored activities.

ATIA further acknowledges that under no circumstances will funds from the tobacco industry be accepted. This includes moneys for sponsorship, advertising, or promotion.

This policy shall be established to:

1. Protect the health and safety of teens.


2. Reflect and emphasize the hazards of tobacco use.


3. Promote health and encourage teens to adopt healthy lifestyles.


4. Further the goal of consistency among on-going school and community programs to discourage teens for using tobacco products.


5. Eliminate the mixed messages that teens receive through tobacco advertising and its association with sport, music and concerts.
