After I made a barrette with a snood and showed it to my mom she said she liked it but was disappointed that most snoods and bun covers were always so large and open. Her hair is very fine. When she pulls it up into a bun there is not much there that would fill a snood. And it comes loose so easily that open-worked styles allow her hair to poke through. So I promptly sat right down and designed the Ruffled Bun Cover for her using the same type of ruffle as I made for the barrette. She was delighted and immediately put it on and wore it to work. My two daughters saw it and demanded that I make some for them. I soon discovered that the yarn I was using for theirs, although also a worsted weight, was not only softer but a smaller yarn. It necessitated my altering the pattern a bit. So I have two patterns basically alike with only slight variations. This allows you to make one that is relatively stiff and sturdy or one that is soft. Without further ado, here they are.

Thick Chenille Bun Cover

Mom liked her first bun cover so much she asked me to make another one. This time she wanted the entire thing covered with some sort of loop or ruffle. When I was through with it, it came out very thick. It's perfect for people who have thin hair and do not have much of a bun when they put their hair up. This bun cover makes it appear that a person actually has hair filling it up. LOL. Mom loves it.

Seed Stitch Doll/Baby Afghan  [Added: 8-1-01]

This is a nice solid pattern. Yet, it is soft and flexible. Many mothers find that their babies chance getting little fingers caught in a lacy pattern. That won't happen here.
