Zulmi

(*1/2)

It is a revenge drama. An honest thakur (Dara Singh) is murdered by an underworld don (Dalip Tahil). Before dying the thakur hands over his grandson to his trusted man (Amrish Puri). He brings up the grandson (Milind Gunaji) but he falls into bad habits. He tries to rape Akshay's sister but she kills herself. Now the hero wants to take revenge. On the other hand Amrish Puri hires Akshay to take avenge of the thakur's death. Now some twists and turns and finally everything ends well. Akshay Kumar is okay, and good in stunts. Twinkle Khanna is okay. Other departments of the film are poorly handled.

Zulmi'Hum pe Zulm na karo, Zulmi mafee dai do'. You can't help but sing those lines after going through the album! It also proves to be a rare case of 'nothing ventured, everything gained' for those who missed the album.

Dilip Sen - Sameer Sen certainly seem to be trying to get into record book of sorts by wasting the talent of Asha Bhosle not once or twice but SIX times in a single album! All right, All right! We are being too harsh on the music duo. They do, afterall, provide a couple of easy-on-ears numbers in the album. The most notable amongst them being the first track of the album - Teri Badmashiyan Aur Meri Kamzoriyan by the sweet-throat duo of Udit Narayan and Asha. The soft number carries the fragrance of a bygone era - though it obviously lacks the class of the times. Then comes the tried-once-too-often song Bhool Se Humne Bhool Ki Hai Jo by Kumar Sanu and the amazing Asha. It is again a soft number and gives a nice listening. Nothing jarring about the first two, you would say. But that soon turns out to be a said-too-soon statement. Sapne Mein Aake Loot Gaya by Asha quite convincingly lets her fans down. And to add salt to the wounds, Bhool Se returns in the instrumental mode. Little do the listeners realize that the song would again be heard in the sadder version on the other side of the album. Zulmi

Side B opens with another uninspiring number in the sweet-as-nectar voice of the indomitable Asha. The other two tracks - Mere Liye To Fit Hai Tu (Amit Kumar, Asha) and Shalu Ya Sheela (Amit Kumar) - need no words to get dismissed! In the end you congratulate yourself for surviving the album!

Good for those who are yearning to get the real meaning of the word Zulmi!
